Under the direction of a Caltrans Maintenance Supervisor, the Caltrans Highway Maintenance Leadworker will help the supervisor plan and schedule the work of the crew. The incumbent will operate equipment requiring a Class B license while operating various specialized equipment such as the District-wide Bridge and Sign Snooper, District-wide Grinder, Transport Badger adn Digger Derrick truck while performing duties such as installing, repairing and maintaining signs of all sizes, assisting Southern Districts with Bridge inspections, installing sign posts and working on sign structures. When not operating equipment, the incumbent will peform duties normally assigned to a CT Highway Maintenance Worker and will perform manual labor in the assigned duties. The incumbent may be required to work overtime including nights and weekends and may be expected to respond to emergency call-outs. May be required to work intermittent and/or varied work schedules do to workload or travel requirements. May be loaned to other cost centers.
This position is represented under collective bargaining and is subject to the post and bid process. Other methods of appointment will be considered only in the event there are no bidders.
All methods of appointment will be considered (e.g. list appointment, transfer, re-instatement, surplus, SROA, re-employment, Training & Development assignment, etc.). All applicants must meet the minimum qualifications for the classification in order to be eligible for appointment to the position.
