At Wegmans, providing our customers with great tasting prepared foods means having talented employees working in the Prepared Foods department. In the role of a Cook III, you’ll be an integral member of the team responsible for putting out these products. If you have a passion for preparing food and are looking for the position to develop your skills and talents, this could be the role for you!

I will add value by:

  • Assisting the entire kitchen’s operations by prepping ingredients to be used in preparing products, ensuring they are ready to be used so items are available for customers without set backs or delays
  • Following Wegmans core recipes and proper knife skills when prepping ingredients and preparing products to ensure a consistent final outcome
  • Maintaining the appearance of the items offered in the Chef’s case, refilling products throughout the day as necessary
  • Effectively multitasking in the department, balancing prep work while ensuring customers are receiving attention and their needs are attended to
  • Providing incredible customer service and assisting team members by waiting on customers at the counter, weighing and packaging prepared items as requested, answering questions about products and offering suggestions for complete meal solutions
  • Performing opening and/ or closing procedures in department to prepare for that day’s or the following day’s work aiming for the most efficient operations
  • Properly handling products, using equipment and keeping accurate logs in accordance with food safety and safety guidelines

Qualifications

  • Properly handle, prepare, transport and store products; ensuring food and human safety practices are strictly adhered to

  • Utilize resources to educate self and others about product uses and characteristics, being sure to share acquired product knowledge
  • Learn, use and be able to explain Wegmans sanctioned cooking techniques to assist customers for their success at home
  • Has knowledge of products used throughout the store and works across departments to provide knowledge based service to assist customers in finding complete meal solutions


What will set me apart from other candidates:

  • Experience working as a pantry cook/ apprentice cook
  • Associates or Bachelors degree in Culinary Arts
  • Food preparation experience
  • Customer service experience preferably in a food service, restaurant, grocery or retail setting
  • Possess culinary knife skills which include safely using knives; sharpening and honing the edges of knives; and using them to chop, dice, julienne and mince


Work environment:

  • Work involves continuous interaction with customers and co-workers in a fast-paced environment
  • Typical motions include repetitive hand and arm movements, bending and reaching
  • Responsible for moving and lifting an average of 5 – 20 pounds with a maximum weight lifted of 50 pounds rarely
  • May be exposed to various allergens and work environments, including temperature changes
  • Tasks will be performed using and in the proximity of coolers, ovens, stoves and other hot equipment; cooking and kitchen utensils and equipment
  • Will be required to spend the majority of time on his or her feet and stand or walk without a break for up to 4 hours
