A glimpse at the job:

If you have Sushi experience and love producing consistent, high quality products, you may want to be our next Sushi Cook 2. This position will prepare individuals for future positions as Sushi Team leaders, Sushi Sous Chefs as well as other Cook 2 positions within the culinary area.

· Ensuring consistency of product and reducing shrink and accidents by following approved recipes, using proper knife skills and techniques when preparing products
· Prioritizing tasks to ensure all items on the daily production list are made and enough product is available to meet customer needs, especially during peak times

Qualifications

What abilities I must bring to the table to be considered:



Experience in Sushi preparation in high volume retail environments
Demonstrated ability utilizing all machines in the Sushi department including scales
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with customers in order to identify and meet customer needs
Demonstrated ability following food safety guidelines including; properly receiving products and maintaining food safety logs
Demonstrated knowledge of identifying fish species
Demonstrated ability to follow directions including; recipes, detailed procedures, and task lists when necessary

· Possess culinary knife skills which include safely using knives; sharpening and honing the edges of knives; and using them to chop, slice, dice, julienne and mince.
· Providing incredible customer service, greeting customers and answering questions in a friendly manner, proactively offering assistance and providing accurate and timely information, making product/ service recommendations and accommodating special requests
· Possessing teamwork and diversity awareness by listening to others' points of view and recognizing and appreciating differences
· Recognizing and seeking opportunities for continuous learning to gain new understandings, skills and knowledge
· Ensuring food and human safety practices are strictly adhered to
· Possessing organizational skills, prioritizing requests and department activities while managing interruptions and attending to details to complete tasks within deadlines
· Utilizing resources to educate self and others about product uses and characteristics, being sure to share acquired product knowledge

What will set me apart from other candidates:

· 1-3 years experience working as a Sushi cook
· Associates or Bachelors degree in Culinary Arts
· Customer service experience preferably in a food service, restaurant, grocery or retail setting
· Use data analysis, wisdom, experience, judgment, and past actions as well as input from other sources for decision making, always considering the impact on customers, sales and contribution (profit)
· Control inventory levels and expenses such as payroll and shrink to impact bottom-line contribution (profit) for the department
· Practice proper ordering techniques to complete orders by deadlines and participate in inventory process to ensure items are available to support merchandising programs and product promotions
· Assist with meal preparation and planning by providing customers with proper serving guidelines and recommending correct cooking techniques, helping to make great meals easy

Work environment:

  • Continuous interaction with customers and co-workers in a fast-paced environment
  • Typical motions include repetitive hand and arm movements, bending, reaching and frequent lifting of an average of 5 – 20 pounds
  • Work requires the safe and proper handling of cooking utensils and kitchen equipment
  • May be exposed to various allergens and work environments,
  • Will be required to spend the majority of time on his or her feet and stand or walk without a break for up to 4 hours

Days/Hours Requirement: Full time applicants are required to have an open availability Monday - Saturday between the operating hours of 6am-Midnight and are typically scheduled a minimum of 40 hours a week.
