A glimpse at the job:

If you are looking to gain culinary experience and want to assist talented Chefs by preparing ingredients and helping to assemble products, you may want to be a Sushi Cook III employee. This position will prepare individuals for future positions as Sushi Cook 2 as well as other entry level Cook positions within the culinary area.

Customer:
  • Providing incredible customer service and assisting team members by waiting on customers at the counter, packaging prepared Sushi items as requested, answering questions about products and offering suggestions
  • Effectively multitasking in the department, balancing prep work while ensuring customers are receiving attention and their needs are attended to

Product:
  • Assisting the Sushi operations by prepping ingredients to be used in preparing products, ensuring they are ready to be used so items are available for customers without set backs or delays
  • Following Wegmans core recipes and proper knife skills when prepping ingredients and preparing products to ensure a consistent final outcome

· Maintaining the appearance of the items offered in the Sushi case, refilling products throughout the day as needed
  • Properly handling products, using equipment and keeping accurate logs in accordance with food safety and safety guidelines

· Making and testing rice by utilizing PH testing materials in order to make sure that rice meets Wegmans specifications
Results:
  • Performing opening and/ or closing procedures in department to prepare for that day’s or the following day’s work aiming for the most efficient operations
  • Assisting team members by setting up and maintaining Sushi stations; ensuring products are well-merchandised, signs are properly displayed, product levels are maintained throughout the day, and supplies are set up to quickly and efficiently perform tasks and provide incredible customer service
  • Following Wegmans Guiding Principles and department job aides to consistently prepare quality products that meets Wegmans standards
  • Increase efficiency by completing tasks assigned by the team leader or Cook II on time and within the quality guidelines specified

Qualifications

What abilities I must bring to the table to be considered:



Experience working in retail/food service setting
· Providing incredible customer service, greeting customers and answering questions in a friendly manner, proactively offering assistance and providing accurate and timely information, making product/ service recommendations and accommodating special requests
· Possessing teamwork and diversity awareness by listening to others' points of view and recognizing and appreciating differences
· Ensuring food and human safety practices are strictly adhered to
· Possessing organizational skills, prioritizing requests and department activities while managing interruptions and attending to details to complete tasks within deadlines
· Possessing knowledge of products used throughout the store and works across departments to provide knowledge based service to assist customers in finding complete meal solutions

What will set me apart from other candidates:

Experience working as a Sushi cook
Associates or Bachelors degree in Culinary Arts
Customer service experience preferably in a food service, restaurant, grocery or retail setting
· Possess culinary knife skills which include safely using knives; sharpening and honing the edges of knives; and using them to chop, dice, julienne, slice and mince
· Demonstrated ability following food safety guidelines including; properly receiving products and maintaining food safety logs
· Demonstrated ability to follow directions including; recipes, detailed procedures, and task lists when necessary
· Recognizing and seeking opportunities for continuous learning to gain new understandings, skills and knowledge
· Utilizing resources to educate self and others about product uses and characteristics, being sure to share acquired product knowledge

Work environment:

  • Continuous interaction with customers and co-workers in a fast-paced environment
  • Typical motions include repetitive hand and arm movements, bending, reaching and frequent lifting of an average of 5 – 20 pounds
  • Work requires the safe and proper handling of cooking utensils and kitchen equipment
  • May be exposed to various allergens and work environments,
  • Will be required to spend the majority of time on his or her feet and stand or walk without a break for up to 4 hours

Age Requirement: Must be 18 years or older.

Days/Hours Requirement: Part time employees may work up to 30 hours/week, between 4 & 8 hours at a time based on department needs. Weekly hours and specific shifts are not guaranteed. The most successful applicants offer an availability spanning several hours at a time, on multiple days/week. Specific days/hours of work vary by position/department and will generally include weekends.
