The Product Manager will be responsible for writing and prioritizing user stories that describe business requirements in a fashion that can be clearly understood by product developers. At The Home Depot, the Product Manager is responsible for continually delivering complex data solutions in technologies like Hadoop and Teradata, building advanced analytic tools, as well as research, analysis, design, and support of data science. The Home Depot uses an Extreme Programming (XP) and Test Driven Development (TDD) methodology to deliver solutions. Experience in XP/TDD development is preferred.
Daily responsibilities include:
Partner with business stakeholders and product developers to inform and drive product decisions.
Work with the product team (development and business) to continually validate development based off user stories as well as refactor existing development in the products.
Coordinate demos to business stakeholders and end users to continuously validate product direction and business goal alignment.
Serve as a Coach and Mentor for the product team for daily standups, and promoting Agile, Extreme Programming (XP) and Test Driven Development (TDD) thinking and processes.
Develop, implement and modify team metrics to help provide an accurate indicator of team progress toward goals.
Apply product management experiences in order to implement Agile/XP/TDD methodologies in a large scale environment.
Assist Agile/XP/TDD business and IT teams in support of the design and implementation of advanced analytic tools and data visualizations.
Provide coordination for all developers (associates and contractors) on the product team. Ensure the team comprehends and applies established processes, policies, standards and procedures.
Manage product backlogs to ensure that current and future work for development teams will deliver business value.
Facilitate conversations, activities, and experiences to help build a continuous improvement culture.
As an IT professional, you have expert knowledge in one or more Agile development methodologies (XP, Agile, TDD). Because of your excellent understanding of iterative development, you have the ability to coach and mentor project teams in the design and development of complex applications/programs. You get to work closely with and learn from the brightest minds to ensure proper system implementations. Your role ensures the highest quality software implementations. MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES -
• Write and prioritize user stories that describe business requirements in a fashion that can be clearly understood by product developers
• Partner with business stakeholders and product developers to inform and drive product decisions
• Develop and manage product backlogs to scope out future work for product development teams and deliver business value
• Validate and accept finished user stories so that any changes can be refactored prior to release
• Coordinate demos to business stakeholders and end users to continuously validate product direction and business goal alignment
• Coach product teams to implement Agile thinking, processes, tools and metrics
• Develop, implement and modify team metrics to help provide an accurate indicator of team progress toward goals
• Mentor individuals and teams by facilitating conversations, activities, and experiences to help build a continuous improvement culture
• Apply product management experiences in order to implement Agile/XP methodologies in a large scale environment

NATURE AND SCOPE -
Typically reports to Manager or Sr. Manager, Information Technology

No associates report to this role on a permanent basis, but requires the technical leadership of a project work team: may select team members and assess capabilities, provide technical training, provide information necessary to meet work, project or program objectives, evaluate program or project performance.


ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
-
Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS -
Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must pass the Drug Test.
Must successfully complete any required training or orientation courses.

EDUCATION REQUIRED -
The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diplomas and/or GED.

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS -
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS -
BS/BA in IT or related field or equivalent experience.
5+ years of related experience.
3+ Years of Information Technology experience.
Experience leading Products in a software company or Information Technology department.
Experience working with data warehouses and analytics is preferred.
Basic SQL skills are required.
Experience working in an Agile or Extreme Programming (XP) environment.
Experience using Agile user story tools (Jira, Pivotal Tracker, or TFS).
Experience with Retail and/or Supply Chain from a business perspective.
Experience with any of the following technologies would be considered a plus:
Hadoop, NoSQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, Cloudera, SQL Server, Tableau, Teradata, Storm.
Excellent written, verbal, and documentation skills required. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; must be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with the ability to appropriately prioritize tasks as needed.
