Position Title: Porter-Sales Revised : 7/2011

Category: Non Exempt Reports To: Sales Manager

Summary:

The Porter is responsible for assisting in processing vehicles through the service and reconditioning departments, keeping the lot clean and orderly to enhance the marketing of these vehicles as well as to enhance the professional image to customers and the public. The Porter will also assist with the orderly processing of lease turn-ins. The Porter is prohibited from driving vehicles off the dealership property if 18 years of age or younger.

Essential Duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Compares serial numbers of incoming vehicles against invoice.

Inspects vehicles to detect damage and to verify the presence of accessories listed on the invoice.

Inspect vehicles for loose or misaligned items such as trim, doors and hardware.

Records the description of damages and lists missing items on the delivery receipt.

Sign or otherwise acknowledge an acceptance slip for each vehicle delivered.

Start engine and drive the vehicle to test steering, brakes, transmission, and engine operation.

Activate power equipment such as electric windows, seats, radio, horn, lights, and directional signals to ensure specified operating standards.

Inspect surfaces to detect minor chips and scratches in paint.

Replaces all traces of any protective films or coverings applied for shipment.

Catalogs and stores keys.

Responsible for assisting and preparing vehicles for retail sale by processing vehicles through the service and reconditioning departments.

Responsible for insuring that inventory is clean and properly displayed and aligned at all times.

Responsible for assisting auto stickers with the replacement of printed material on vehicle inventory; will check inventory daily to ensure that necessary documentation, including FTC stickers, is displayed, as well as Dealership plate frames.

Will assist sales staff with the delivery process as needed, including, but not limited to, putting fuel in vehicles, parking vehicles in designated area, assisting with inspection process, checking on vehicle cleanliness, mileage, etc.

Park cars in assigned areas.

Will be required to attend 4-hour defensive driver training.

Will be required to follow seat belt regulations and Rules of the Road

Keep work area neat and clean.

Understand, keep up to date, and comply with federal, state, and local regulations that affect service operations such as; safety rules and procedures, hazardous waste disposal, OSHA right-to-know, etc.

Appropriately and safely operate all tools and equipment as mandated through safety training. Report any safety, equipment defects or malfunction issues to management immediately.

Attend all dealership and department meetings when requested.

Adherence to all attendance and punctuality standards.

Adherence to timekeeping standards; Employees are required to record the beginning and ending times of any shift, meal break or departure from work for personal reasons.

Understand and follow all work rule policies and procedures.

Maintains a professional clean and pressed business appearance as determined by dealership management.

Follow the Code of Business Ethics and Conduct.

Qualifications: High school diploma or the equivalent . Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information. Must have a valid driver s license and a good driving record. Ability to demonstrate good judgment. Neat and professional appearance.

Working Conditions: This physically demanding position requires frequent movement throughout the inside and outside of the dealership, under varying climate conditions. Porter will move numerous cars during the course of the working day.
