Lighthouse Care Center of Conway , a subsidiary of Universal Health Services, Inc. (UHS), is located in Conway, South Carolina., just a few miles north of Myrtle Beach. We provide three levels of care mdash inpatient acute psychiatric and substance abuse treatment for adults, acute adolescent, and adolescent residential programming. Lighthouse is a JCAHO-accredited Hospital and Residential Treatment Facility. Most commercial insurances, Medicare and Tricare pay for Lighthouse acute care services. Medicaid will reimburse Lighthouse for services provided to adolescents in the residential program only.

Job Summary:

Responsible for developing, implementing, conducting and evaluating in-service programs, orientation and continuing education for nurses, nursing students and other staff establishes educational policies and procedures acts as a resource person to staff. Responsible for the development and implementation of a hospital wide infection control plan. Responsible for maintaining all records and reporting requirements of local, state, federal agencies and various regulatory agencies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Develops and directs orientation programs, in-services and continuing education for the nursing staff and auxiliary personnel. Teaches classes, provides individual instruction assigns in-service ideas to staff members to develop and teach. Supervises student education programs. Interacts professionally with each nursing unit to determine their specific educational needs and to coordinate educational programs to meet those needs. Performs continuous evaluations of training needs determines effectiveness of educational programs. Ability to develop instructional materials demonstrates patient care equipment set-up demonstrations of patient care equipment by vendors'/manufacturers' representatives. Able to develop and instruct educational programs for all patients. This includes pediatric, geriatric and the general population. Determines the need and helps to coordinate continuous quality improvement activities. Responsible for developing a budget for educational programs able to write grant proposals. Ability to assist with and implementation of special projects. Documents staff participation of in-services ensures educational requirements, hospital requirements and regulatory standards are met on an annual basis. Evaluates and documents staff performance of clinical skills. Plans and coordinates conferences and seminars uses community resources. Assists head nurses in planning and implementing staff development programs in their respective units. Videotapes seminars, classes, demonstrates for future use. Ability to serve as a resource person, consultant to nursing and medical staff, education instructors, students and all other staff members. May perform clinical duties if needed may set-up and maintain equipment. Treats patients and families with respect and dignity ensures patient confidentiality. Follows the five medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. Demonstrates the ability to be flexible and organized. Performs other duties as assigned. Performs administrative duties as needed management reports maintains in-service, orientation records plans a monthly calendar for education activities orders supplies and equipment. Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean. Establishes the organization's infection surveillance, prevention, and control program. Develops, implements, updates and enforces the organization's infection control policies and procedures. Reports Infection Control data to the Pharmacy and Therapeutic Committee. Conducts infection control related training sessions. Participates in activities which enhance professional growth and development. Demonstrates conduct in keeping with Lighthouse ethical standards. Complies with facility safety, infection control and security program. Supports facility internal and external customer service standards. Recognizes internal and external customer satisfaction, acknowledging that everyone who enters the department of nursing - patients and staff - is a customer. Endeavors to meet customer's needs in a time frame acceptable to the customer. When unable to meet the customer's needs within an acceptable time frame, will communicate and work with the customer to renegotiate acceptable time frames. Demonstrates ownership and a commitment to finding solutions to customer concerns or problems and encourages others to do the same. Takes initiative to solve problems and accepts responsibility for my own choices made. Demonstrates a commitment to identifying internal / systemic issues as they occur and finding solutions rather than perpetuating issues. Maintains only appropriate interpersonal communication with other staff members and patients. Supports facility internal external customer service standards. Completes annual education requirements. Reports to work on time and as scheduled. Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner. Maintain and insures confidentiality of facility employees and patient's information at all times. Attend all mandatory facility in-service and staff development activities as scheduled. Adhere to facility-wide quality / performance improvement goals and development. Adhere to facility, department, corporate, personnel, and standard policies and procedures. Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and Joint Commission regulations. Wears identification while on duty uses computerized punch time system correctly. Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, department, and staff. Attends department managers' meetings and other Hospital meetings as appropriate. Actively participates in the department's continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities. Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the hospital, as well as the focus statement of the department. Regulatory Requirements:

Education: Current South Carolina Registered Nurse Licensure, Certification as an instructor in BCLS and/or ACLS.

BSN required, Master's degree preferred.

DHEC or APIX certification or agreement to obtain within 6 months of employment.

Experience:

Minimum 3 years nursing experience with demonstrated abilities to provide education and training, preceptor and accomplish written reports.

Additional Requirements:

Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English. Basic computer knowledge. Ability to use the following machines, tools and equipment: Computer, calculator, photocopier, telephone, fax machine, projector, audiovisual equipment, cameras.

Physical and Mental Requirements of Job:

Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach and stand for sustained period of time, walk, pull, lift objects from a lower to a higher position or horizontally from position, finger grasp feels sizes, shapes, temperatures and textures express or exchange ideas orally potentially loudly, accurately or quickly perceive the nature of sound with no less than a 40db loss 1000 Hz and 2000 Hz with or without correction perform repetitive motions of the wrist, hands or fingers.

Light work most of the time, exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and occasionally medium work, that is exerting up to 50 pounds of force frequently.

Visual Acuity:

Ability to inspect and analyze manuals, information, books, figures, handwritten notes, computer terminal characters and similar objects or items at distances generally close to the eyes.
