As a key member of the store leadership team, you will provide critical support to the General Manager in executing and achieving store financial budgets as well as store operation policy and procedures. We’ll also look to you to drive the sales and operation of the store in the absence of the General Manager.

This position is directly responsible for meeting or exceeding sales goals, profit measures and expense controls, shrink and safety. You will manage and coach sales associates in providing great customer service and in performing their assigned tasks. You will also handle all record keeping functions, work schedules and labor cost management. Living out our 'animals come first' philosophy, you will lead by example to ensure animal standards are met and exceeded.

Responsible for the sales and operation of the Petco store in the absence of the General Manager. This position is directly responsible for ensuring hourly associates are scheduled in the appropriate department on a daily basis. Responsible for ensuring store staff meets customer service standards, payroll targets, ensuring each associate receives the prescribed training and meets the required qualifications for their position. This position is responsible for all front end and cashier activities.
  1. Assist the General Manager in executing and achieving store financial budgets and store operation policy and procedures. Responsible for all record keeping functions, work schedules, and managing labor costs effectively.
  2. Responsible for meeting or exceeding the store budget, with regard to sales, profit measures and expense controls, shrink, (proper FT/PT mix remove and pull to #5), reduction of accidents.
  3. Influence( Achieve- remove) average sales/transaction, customer count, Customer Loyalty Index (CLI) and attachment rate goals.
  4. Maintain all standards of the Operation Standards of Excellence.
  5. Responsible for ensuring optimum- store staffing levels at all times;this includes writing schedules and maintaining specified FT/PT mix. Ensure fast, friendly efficient checkout service.
  6. Responsible for the continuous training and development of associates. Ensure sales associates have the necessary training, knowledge and customer engagement skills to achieve sales goals.
  7. Manages and coaches sales associates in providing great customer service and in performing their assigned task.
  8. Obey all federal, state and local regulations.
  9. Ensure animal standards are met and leading by example our animals come first philosophy.
  10. Assist General Managers in all aspects of the operation.
  11. Ensuring all merchandising and operational programs are communicated to all store associates.
  12. Screen all applications for employment and present candidates to General Manager for final hiring.
  13. Responsible for measuring the performance effectiveness of all sales associates, cashiers, and perform ongoing feedback to associates and conduct annual performance evaluation.
  14. Assist the GM in planning out location changes needed to the grid and ad planner to maximize sales.
  15. Ensure 100% completion of all ad sets and signage.
  16. Perform duties and assume responsibility as Manager on Duty (MOD) as needed.
  17. Perform all special or other projects as assigned.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Provide quick and courteous service to all customers by utilizing the GUEST Model throughout the store to include the cashiers.
  2. Ensure OSE standards are maintained throughout the store.
  3. Ensure that the store is opened and / or closed in accordance with established P&Ps.
  4. Provide training and coaching in GUEST and product knowledge to associates throughout the store.
  5. In partnership with the GM/AM ensure proper store scheduling is being maintained to ensure customer service during peak hours.
  6. Adhere to and promote established safety procedures.

The majority of job duties are conducted indoors, although merchandise receiving, merchandise carry-outs, or stock balancing will require leaving the store briefly. Must be able to lift 50 lbs and pull 2000 lbs utilizing material handling equipment. Improper use of safety equipment and/or not following proper lifting techniques may pose of risk of injury to customers, pets, and store personnel.

Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma or G.E.D. is required. Some college coursework or college degree preferred.

Previous experience as a Petco department manager or higher /equal position with another retailer. Prior supervisory experience required. Must be able to demonstrate an aptitude for training, motivation and sales technologies, analytical abilities. The position is in constant contact with customers and store associates; therefore successful incumbents must have good interpersonal, written and oral communication skills and have a professional appearance or demeanor.
