POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for verifying, filling and dispensing medication orders including the proper handling, usage, monitoring and storage of drugs in the pharmacy. Maintains standards set by the department and translates policies and procedures into the daily operation of the pharmacy. Acts as an information resource to patients, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals regarding medication therapy and drug-related information and literature. Serves as a preceptor to students, new hires and residents and supervises and directs support personnel. Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:BS Pharmacy or PharmD - Graduate of an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy.
PREFERED EDUCATION: Hospital Pharmacy experience preferred
OTHER SKILLS REQUIRED:Licensed to practice pharmacy in the state of Maine. Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision. Ability to work cooperatively with health-system and pharmacy staff. Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule. Ability to set priorities, make critical decisions and respond quickly to emergent requests. Ability to exercise sound professional judgment. Ability to communicate effectively (orally and writing). Ability to meet pharmaceutical care needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric, psychiatric, oncology, obstetric and rehabilitation patients. Must exhibit a caring attitude toward patients, co-workers, and other customers.
OTHER SKILLS PREFERED: Computer skills; Residency; Board of Pharmacy Specialties certification
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:May require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40lbs.) Capacity to concentrate in a busy and often stressful environment.Sitting and extended periods of standing and walking are required. This position entails extensive customer service and phone utilization; visual and auditory acuity, finger-wrist repetitive motion, and utilization of a computer/keyboard
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:Fast paced clinical environment.Participation in unit specific and hospital wide activities that promote self and staff development. Participation in the development of unit specific strategic goals that assist with the fulfillment of the Eastern Maine Medical Center mission and vision.
