SUMMARY:

The RN provides nursing care to the patients/clients as requested by the patient/client and, when required, as prescribed by the physician and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations and the policies of the Organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Seek and obtain sufficient information necessary to function effectively in the health care setting where assigned.

2. Provide professional nursing care by utilizing all elements of nursing process.

3. Assess and evaluate patient's/client's status by:

A. Reviewing and implementing the plan of care

B. Regularly re-evaluating patient/client needs

C. Revising the plan of care as necessary

4. Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by the physician.

5. Initiate and apply appropriate preventative, therapeutic and rehabilitative nursing procedures and techniques; maintain communication regarding patient/client care with the physician and other personnel as needed.

6. Complete, maintain and submit accurate and relevant clinical notes regarding patient's/client's condition and care given.

7. Effectively uses supplies and equipment to maximize efficiency.

8. Assess the patient/client for changes in condition, discusses changes with the patient/client or family/caregiver and reports changes, as necessary, to the attending physician.

9. Assist the patient/client with the activities of daily living and facilitate the patient's/client's efforts toward self-sufficiency and independence.

10. Teach the patient/client and family/caregiver self-care techniques as appropriate. Provide medication, diet and other instructions as ordered by the physician and recognizes and utilizes opportunities for health counseling with patients/clients and families/caregivers.

11. Provide and maintain a safe environment for the patient/client.

12. Assist the patient's/client's family/caregiver and other health care personnel in providing continuity of care.

13. Supervise ancillary personnel and delegate responsibilities when required.

14. Perform all duties within the limits of preparation and experience.

15. Accept responsibility of assignment to perform a specialized procedure, such as IV therapy, only when qualified with specialty training, proven competency, clinical background, and expertise in the specialty area.

16. Assume responsibility for personal growth and development and maintain and upgrade professional knowledge and practice skills through attendance and participation in continuing education and in-service classes.

17. Fulfill the obligation of requested and/or accepted case assignments.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing. BSN preferred.

2. Current licensure as an RN in MA.

3. Minimum one to two years general nursing experience, med/surg, or critical care experience.

4. Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state and/or Organization requirements and is in good working order.

5. Maintains current CPR certification.

6. Exercises excellent observation and sound nursing judgment, excellent oral and written communication skills.

7. Self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision; and excellent organizational skills.

8. Flexible and cooperative in fulfilling role obligation .
