Behavioral Health Phone Intake Coordinator

Department: Evaluation and Referral

Reports To: Director of Emergency Room Services

Purpose: Responsible for the coordination of referrals to Child Development Unit, Geriatric Treatment Unit and Hodgson 3 Adult Inpatient Unit of Leonard Morse Hospital and St. Vincent's Hospital, Worcester adult psychiatric unit and other outpatient services in the MetroWest Medical system. Coordinator will be responsible for the triage and referral of patients in the LMH/FUH ER and will coordinate the referrals of patients at St. Vincent's Hospital.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Is responsible for answering the phone in a timely manner for referrals of patients seeking services in PPH or ER settings for Metrowest Medical Center and St. Vincent's Hospital. Cases referred for inpatient admissions will be coordinated with accepting service with a goal to maximize census at all times. Facilitates acceptance of patients from referring facilities and completes all required paperwork to ensure a smooth transition for the patient. Will work closely with the evaluating clinician regarding documentation.

Is responsible for verifying and obtaining all insurance authorizations for patients referred to the Leonard Morse and St. Vincent's Hospital inpatients units. Will maintain an active working knowledge of insurance systems in order to facilitate timely verification of benefits.

Is responsible for administrative contact with Mass Rev and originates individual user IDs and passwords for all staff involved with electronic contact with the Mass Revs's website. Responsible for for upgrading user ID's and password data.

Is responsible for working closely with St. Vincent's CAT clinicians and apprises staff of change in census, insurance, MD/NP coverage and policies.

Is responsible for working closely with the Director of ERS in maintaining procedures and policies for the ERS.6

Must hold a Bachelor's degree in a related field (Social Work, Psychology).

Master's degree preferred.

Must have excellent phone skills.

Must be able to respond calmly and effectively in high pressure situations.

Must have a basic working knowledge of the mental health care system.
