The Medical Assistant / Receptionist is responsible for assisting the physician in providing direct patient care and health teaching designed to meet the age/developmental specific needs of the health care patients. The employee will deliver quality care by offering excellent customer service. All employees participate within a team centered approach towards patient care. The employee must possess exceptional communication skills, critical thinking skills, and independent decision making skills.

General responsibilities include: collaboration with the Physician and nursing staff regarding patient care; holistic care involving patient families; proficiency in order entry and Meditech computer system; providing clerical and patient related support in the functional areas of record keeping, scheduling, and utilizing knowledge of office policy and procedure; verification of patient demographics; patient record filing and retention; verification of physician orders; scheduling patients for appointments and referrals; preparation of patient for exam; patient billing and payments; meet and greet patients and maintain office supplies.

Employees must observe professional ethics in maintaining confidential information acquired regarding personal, financial, medical or employment of patients, families, and employees of BLACKWELL CLINIC. Must follow and enforce accepted safety practices for patients, and clinic. Must report hazards and initiate appropriate action. Must participate in safety instructional programs.

Experience: At least one year experience in direct patient care. Prefer experience in phlebotomy and laboratory testing/specimen preparation.

Skills: PC skills or applicable computer experience.

Licenses/Certifications: Currently be registered as Medical Assistant by the American Association of Medical Personnel or other governing body, BLS / CPR certification.
