Business Unit / Department Mission
Responsible for the total operation of the store's Produce Department including providing a safe work environment, employment interviewing, training, developing and performance appraisals; customer service; ordering, display rotation, planogram compliance, controlling shrink, product quality, sanitation, inventory control, work scheduling; receiving, pricing, stocking, and signing of merchandise; and financial results
Essential Functions / Process Responsibilities include the following; other duties may be assigned as necessary
- Majority of time spent using independent judgment to make employment-related decisions or effectively recommend such decisions, to hire, promote, transfer, discipline, suspend, discharge, reward, or otherwise engage in resolving partner-related matters
- Researches and analyzes potential or existing process breakdowns and works with necessary Partners to identify and solve problems
- Responsible for training School of Retail Management (SORM)/School of Retail Leadership (SORL) trainees
- Responsible for large product assortment and higher sales volume
- Increased level of knowledge of specialty products
- Responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of the department
- Develops and leads a retail sales team to provide customer service at the highest level in all areas
- Effectively promotes services/products to maximize sales
- Ensures highest level of quality and presentation in products and services
- Manages Partner morale and retention
- Ensures availability of seasonal items
- Prepares work schedules for department
- Orders product to maintain inventory
- Monitors department budget and payroll including product, labor, and expenses
- Builds relationships with Customers and builds customer service through Partners
- Executes merchandising programs
- Maintains safety/sanitation of equipment and department
- Promotes marketing and store events through powerful planning, merchandising and taking advantage of traffic
- Achieves department financials
- May perform all duties of a representative or specialist as needed
- Provides direction, training, and feedback to all department personnel
- Ensures that all government and company regulations and standards for product freshness, safety, refrigeration and sanitation are met
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE preferred:
- School of Retail Management
- 3-5 years proven leadership experience and training or comparable experience
- Proven leadership experience in a complex environment with multiple direct reports
- Ability to oversee a high volume production team
- Ability to demonstrate personal initiative and exceptional customer service
- Ability to delegate, organize and plan effectively
- Thorough understanding of retail accounting
- Computer skills: Microsoft Office Software including Word, Excel, and H-E-B systems
- Excellent communication and organization skills
- Experience in ordering, inventory maintenance, and shrink control
- Ability to maintain an efficient operation, troubleshoot and report any malfunctions of equipment
- Ability to supervise, train and cross-train staff
- Maintain sanitation standards throughout the work area
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including opening, closing, and weekend shifts
Physical and Other Requirements
- Must be able to function in a fast-paced retail environment
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, reach, kneel, squat, reach overhead and side to side throughout shift
- Must be able to lift and carry 40-50 pounds on regular basis up to 25 feet in distance
- Must possess hand/finger dexterity
- Must be able to work in a cooler environment on a regular basis and in extreme an extreme cold environment on an occasional basis
- Must be able to work extended hours and varying work schedule as dictated by the business
