About this job

Provide high quality urgent/emergent health care to Kaiser Permanente members in a cost effective manner in accordance with accepted professional practice standards.

Essential Functions:

* Provide high quality health care through direct assessment, diagnoses, and formulation/implementation of treatment plan for patients with common acute and chronic illnesses and injuries (may include performing histories and physicals; ordering, interpreting, and following up on diagnostic studies; ordering medications; performing minor surgery. Perform health maintenance services, including patient education. Refer patients for specialty consultations. Arrange for admission to hospital when needed for appropriate care following appropriate standards of practice. Document in writing all care in the patient's permanent medical record in accordance with accepted medical/legal standards. Provide all medical care in accordance with accepted practice standards, hospital/clinic protocols, including supervision by a physician as required, and state licensing guidelines.

* Coordinate, develop and organize patient or department services or programs. Examples include, but are not limited to: Assist in developing department protocols. Coordinate CME activities for department. Develop written patient education materials. Provide in-service training. Proctor PA{/NP} students. Chair or participate on committees such as redesign and patient flow, triage criteria.

* Performs other duties as requested.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience

* N/A

Education

* Graduate of AMA-approved PA training program, or graduate of ANA-approved NP training program or equivalent requirements to meet State licensure.

License, Certification, Registration

* National certification.

* State medical license if PA.

* Current Oregon or Washington RN license in state where assigned required upon hire/transfer.

* State NP license if NP.

* Prescription registration.

* Schedule II prescription registration.

* Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required upon hire/transfer. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers required upon hire/transfer.

* Pediatric Cardiac Life Support (PALS) required upon hire/transfer.

* National Provider Identifier (NPI) required prior to employment start date.

Additional Requirements:

* Thorough and working knowledge of all common diseases and injuries in patients of all ages; familiarity with less common diseases and injuries in patients of all ages.

* Working knowledge of State health care laws, licensing board regulations and controlled substance regulations. Important to know limitations and when to refer patients.

* Ability to asses, diagnose and effectively treat common medical diseases and injuries in patients of all ages.

* Ability to use appropriate procedural/testing equipment, to see large volume of patients, and to interface with multiple providers and support staff.

* Strong minor surgery and procedural skills.

* Excellent communication with team members and patients.

* Team player.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Two (2) years of Emergency Medicine/Urgent Care or broad-based Family Practice within the last five (5) years.

* Experience with all ages of patients - adult and pediatric-medicine and trauma.

* Graduate of AMA-approved PA training program or graduate.

* ANA-approved NP training Program.

* Thorough and working knowledge of all commons diseases and injuries; familiarity with less common diseases and injuries.

* Working knowledge of State health care laws, licensing board regulations and controlled substance regulations. Important to know limitations and when to refer patients.

* Ability to assess, diagnose and effectively treat common medical disease and injuries.

* Ability to use appropriate procedural/testing equipment, to see large volume of patients, and to interface with multiple provider and support staff.

* Minor surgery, procedural (i.e. simple and complex laceration repair in children and adults, slit lamp use, abscess incision and drainage, soft tissue/joint injections, toenail removal, digit and wrist fracture reduction).
