GENERAL SUMMARY: The Assistant Manager is responsible for delivering financial results for a Gap Outlet store by thinking customers first, inspiring creativity, and doing what’s right. The Assistant Manager executes the day-to-day plans and strategies developed by the General Manager/Store Director. They also have a shared ownership for creating a positive store experience from a merchandise presentation, process management and customer and employee experience perspective

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Talent & Culture
  • Inspires and motivates team by communicating Gap Outlet’s approach and vision to the business.
  • Addresses substandard performance; in partnership with General Manager/Store Director, initiates and administers performance improvement action plans and/or corrective action as necessary.
  • Effectively accomplishes work through others by delegating tasks to associates.
  • In partnership with General Manager/Store Director ensures employees have an identified career path and high potential employees are prepared for the next level.
  • Motivates team by recognizing and rewarding individuals and/or store for great performance.
  • Handles employee issues and concerns in a professional, respectful and timely manner.
  • Encourages team retention by promoting a positive store environment.
  • Partners with General Manager/Store Director/District Manager on all issues involving “on-notice” situations.
  • Annually writes associate performance reviews and administers compensation changes in partnership with General Manager/Store Director.
Customer Experience
  • Leads and models outstanding service to our internal and external customer.
  • Performs role of Manager on Duty; observes and provides coaching and feedback to associates on their productivity and performance.
  • Monitors company communication tools daily and adjust schedule to execute workload as needed.
  • Educates and motivates team on credit card goals, and ensures active participation in acquisition drives.
  • Resolves escalated customer complaints in a professional, respectful manner; in partnership with General Manager/Store Director and management team, trains and empowers associates to resolve customer concerns in the moment.
  • Evaluates the store from the customer’s point of view; utilizes the Customer Experience Survey to educate the team on the store’s performance and to improve the customer experience.
Product Excellence
  • Is responsible for one or more merchandising departments of the store (and/or other Division of Responsibility (DOR) as assigned by General Manager/Store Director); is able to balance the needs of department (or DOR) with the overall needs of the store by taking ownership and responsibility of any area of the store when necessary.
  • Executes store business plan to drive results and maximize business opportunities; knows and is able to speak to store business metrics and reports.
  • Ensures that department/store is merchandised to represent the brand’s strategy as outlined in the Visual Presentation Guide.
  • Uses Delivery Estimate Report to plan new flow and/or replenishment; coordinates placement of merchandise with lead or stock supervisor, stock team and department specialist.
  • Makes flexing decisions to accommodate sell through of product and clarity of price (promotions and/or markdowns) especially when setting promotions and/or product markdowns.
  • Gathers workload information on upcoming events and promotions; leads employees to execute.
  • Promotions, window presentations, and marketing directives within deadlines.
Brand Strength
  • Knows and follows all company policies and procedures, including store safety standards and compliance audit requirements; educates store team on company expectations and monitors employee adherence. In partnership with General Manager/Store Director, addresses violations to policy in a fair, timely and consistent manner.
  • Holds team accountable to knowing and executing all store processes in alignment with company standards; ensures new team members are trained on all processes.
  • Monitors and adjusts schedules to maximize employee productivity, obtain payroll goals and cover key business hours/peak days.
  • Plans and manages sales and payroll usage on a daily basis using key reports/payroll tools.
  • Regularly reviews company email and other communication tools; ensures applicable communication is shared with associates and that messages requiring action are planned and executed in a timely manner.
  • Performs store open and close procedures in alignment with company standards.
  • Performs other operational activities such as ordering supplies and following up on vendor- related issues as assigned by General Manager/Store Director or Associate Manager.
  • Executes shortage reduction plan in partnership with the management team/DLPM/DM to minimize loss and achieve shrink goals.
ORGANIZATION RELATIONSHIPS
  • Reports to Store Director, General Manager or Associate Manager.
  • Interacts with District Manager and other business partners.
  • Collaborates effectively with leadership team and associates.


Qualification

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills with store team, customers and business partners.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong written and verbal skills.
  • Ability to interact cooperatively and work as a team towards a common goal.
  • Excellent time management skills.

MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL:
  • High School graduate or equivalent
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
  • Six months of Gap Inc. experience preferred.
  • Experience in a retail, operational function and/or customer service industry.
  • Experience supervising teams preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to travel, including overnight as required.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the business, including nights and weekends.
  • Ability to lift and carry 30lbs.
  • Ability to walk and stand for 6-8 hours per day.
  • Ability to maneuver around sales floor, stockroom and office areas.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of the job.
SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Open availability and flexibility to work nights, weekends, including opening and closing shifts, to meet the needs of the business
