AUTOMATION PERSONNEL SERVICES is seeking a Heavy Equipment Mechanic

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will be responsible for the repair and ongoing maintenance of all wheeled and track vehicles and heavy construction equipment, such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, compressors and pneumatic tools. Ability to work outside year-round

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & JOB FUNCTIONS:
Uses and maintains tools and equipment. Initiates or annotates various forms or reports as needed.
Performs routine maintenance, servicing, and emergency repairs to equipment as required.
Responds to a wide array of operational situations as they arise.
Performs normal maintenance on shop equipment and maintains cleanliness of shop area as required.
Performs duties for Emergency Response Team as required.
Inspects and tests fire apparatus, vehicles and related equipment to ensure safe and efficient operating conditions.
Operates and inspects machines or equipment to diagnose defects.
Dismantles and reassembles equipment, using hoists and hand tools.
Examines parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges.
Replaces defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions.
Tests overhauled equipment to insure operating efficiency.
Welds broken parts and structural members.
Adheres to all Safety performance standards and regulations associated with vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance.
Maintains a preventative maintenance log ensuring all maintenance is up to date with the manufactures requirements.
Completes purchase orders, parts request/credit issue forms and receiving reports as needed to maintain an up-to-date inventory of parts and supplies.
Performs related work as assigned.
Determines the proper rigging/load securing methods/devices, and the proper utilization of such devices in accordance with OSHA and DOT standards during lifting, loading, and transportation operations involving cranes, backhoes, loaders, tractor trailers, and forklifts.
Uses proper hand and arm signals to direct/spot other equipment operators.
Performs preventative and daily operator inspections and maintenance on equipment/vehicles in accordance with DOT and company requirements, and reports discrepancies to supervisor.
Performs related work as assigned.

Accountable For:
Common safety practices and protective equipment used on a construction site. Personal Protective Equipment as well as the proper use and requirements for the job task being performed Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical and fuel system issues that commonly occur with heavy equipment.
Work with little supervision and display mature judgment Use of hand and power tools commonly used in the construction trade. Understand and follow directions.
Work cooperatively and safely with others on common projects.

Qualifications
Maintenance experience working on heavy equipment.
Maintenance experience with heavy construction-type equipment
Drug screen required
