Contract to hire

Under the direction of the Plant Manager or Shift Supervisor, this position is accountable for supervising, scheduling and leading a group of union employees to meet departmental goals including but not limited to:
* Leading safety initiatives.
* Monitoring performance against goals and implementing corrective actions to meet goals.
* Identifying and Implementing improvement plans.
* Solving problems to the root to prevent a recurrence.
* Effectively communicating with others within and outside the work group.
* Managing labor relations and conflict issues within the work group.
* Maintaining visual systems within area of accountability.
* Leading small group problem solving activities utilizing resources available.
* Providing leadership and direction, and motivation to people in assigned area.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or GED & 3-5 years industry experience OR Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Metallurgy or Business
  • 3-5 years of Industrial manufacturing in the areas of blending aluminum alloys, working with molten aluminum, and a working knowledge of direct gas fired furnaces.
  • 3 years of demonstrated leadership, organizational, communication, problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Knowledge and experience in applying lean manufacturing
  • Ability to establish sound priorities and objectives and be able to function in a high pressure work environment characterized by constant change.
  • Must be self-motivated, able to motivate others, able to set direction and expectations and follow-up to ensure success
  • Knowledge and experience in applying lean manufacturing/Alcoa Business Systems.
  • Previous supervisory/management experience in a unionized environment
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of MS Office package and proficiency in Oracle desired
