~High School Diploma or equivalent required.

~ 1~2 years service related experience required

~Approximately one to two years experience registering or billing in a medical setting or insurance claims process preferred

~Medical terminology and/or insurance terminology preferred Successful completion of a data entry assessment

~Ability to read and write, excellent interviewing and communication skills.

~Interpersonal skills necessary in order to effectively communicate with all customers (patients, visitors, hospital staff and others)

~Able to handle/difuse/resolve dificut situations, including customer complaints ~N/A ~Ability to work in a fast~paced environment with established time constraints and difficult situations.

~Moderate typing

~Must be able to respond appropriately to disasters and Code Triage patients to assist in registration area

~May need to be able to perform medium lifting of 30 pounds to change printer paper. Medium lifting: Lifting up to 20~50 pounds occasionally and/or 10 to 25 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly

Under the general supervision of the Pt Intake Supervisor and Manager, interviews all patients requiring registration in accordance with State, Federal, hospital and departmental policies insuring that accurate patient information is collected by obtaining the required demographic and financial information. Coordinates admissions with Bed Board and updates computer. Demonstrates excellent customer relations with patients their families, professional, and co~workers within the hospital.

Accountabilities:

Interviews patient or patient's representative to obtain demographic and financial information to initiate a patient financial and medical record 'without" creating a duplicate medical record number. Maintains a good rapport and is sensitive to the needs of others personalizing the registration process to provide a friendlier patient encounter. Insures patient confidentiality, and is cross~trained in all areas of Patient Access, to include Bed Side Registration in Endo/Cardio, Cardiac Cath, and Pre~Admitting.

Provides excellent service to all customers by responding to customer/issues in a proactive and timely manner. Displays Advocate ServiceExcellence Standards. Displays positive intra/inter~departmental communication skills.

Reviews insurance information to identify the insurance carrier and plan code to insure accurate billing and Managed Care statistics. Enters the information gathered into the computer system and generates registration documents, and identification bracelet as required.

Insures compliance with regulatory regulations: Cobra, EMTALA, Medicare Secondary Payer screening, and Medicare Important Message

Exchanges information with physician offices , nursing homes, and other departments within the hospital to insure a complete and accurate registration record

Answers telephones professionally, receives calls or directs calls to appropriate area. Willingly performs other duties and tasks as assigned by Supervisor, Manager, or Director.

Arranges for escort of patients to nursing units provides registration documents to designated area on a timely basis. Directs outpatients to appropriate ancillary departments.
