Repair, overhaul, rebuild and assemble a wide variety of plant equipment, including numerically controlled machines, precision-built machines and material handling equipment. Determine and/or develop maintenance procedures when documentation is not available and devise and make tools/equipment to facilitate work. Obtain job assignment from management. Review trouble tickets to determine what needs to be done, as required. Lock out, tag out and try out equipment for safety, as required. Obtain and analyze drawings, sketches, hydraulic schematics and specifications needed to perform assigned work. Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions on all types of factory machinery including, N/C machines and controllers, gearboxes and machine accessories, using various types of test equipment. Plan and sequence work including ordering required parts and staging necessary tools and equipment. Service, maintain, upgrade and modify plant and material handling equipment using hand, power and precision measurement tools, per engineering requirements, as required. Remove, repair and install hydraulic and pneumatic equipment (e.g., tubing and hoses), as required. Layout and fabricate component parts (e.g., brackets, keystock), to repair/modify plant equipment and machinery, as required. Check and adjust flatness/alignment of machine beds, surfaces, shafts and pulleys using precision levels and optical equipment including lasers. Perform/observe operational check to ensure problem has been corrected and confer with the operator that the machine is operating well, as required. Operate electric stackers, mechanical lifts and pendant cranes to move heavy components/equipment. When job is complete, close out, describe completed repair process and notify appropriate personnel. Provide assistance and instruction to co-workers in problem identification, computing skills, operation methods and prevention processes, as required. Consult with co-workers, lead, supervisor, engineer or other appropriate personnel when assistance is needed and/or when there are questions on job related issues. Work and coordinate with other crafts, vendors and suppliers, as required. Leave verbal/written tie-ins for follow on shifts. Must have a minimum of 3 years experience working on the repair and maintenance of production machinery, preferably metal cutting machinery. Must be able to take direction, multi-task, perform work safely and communicate in written and verbal form. Furnish own basic hand tools, precision measuring equipment and mobile tool storage. Must be skilled in the following: hydraulics, pneumatics, power transmission, precision alignment, troubleshooting and blueprint/schematic reading. Desirable Skills: Laser operation/machine tool alignment, ability to fabricate precision machine parts, robotics, electro-mechanical familiarity and CNC or PLC familiarity. Experience with heat treating or plating processes. Physical demands include, but not limited to: Working in high noise areas, confined spaces, heights and high temperatures. Work may require contact with solvents or hazardous materials that require wearing proper PPE. Requires lifting up to 50 lbs., extended standing, walking, sitting, bending, climbing, and use of fall protection equipment. May be moved to other work shifts within collective bargaining agreement language. This position requires an individual when working at heights to utilize fall protection equipment that has weight limitations. High school diploma or equivalent.
