SUMMARY

We're seeking an experienced Laboratory Manager to direct and coordinate the activities of its Soils and Materials Laboratory in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Lab Manager will oversee the productivity of related materials testing and manage quality control operations for all laboratory operations. Manager is responsible for maintaining proper calibration and records for all laboratory and field testing equipment and will ensure close coordination with the Division Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepares or directs preparation and modifications of laboratory reports, processes client requests for reports, and performs engineering review of submittals.

Manages the Soils, Concrete and Materials Testing Laboratory and personnel therein. Reviews, processes, prepares and submits laboratory reports for Engineer review. Reviews analyses of activities, costs, operations, and forecasts data to determine department or division progress toward stated goals and objectives. This may include the review of profit and loss statements for accuracy, and reviewing issues with the Controller prior to issuance of final statements.

Participate in professional liability loss control measures.

Attend Operations meetings, as scheduled.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manages subordinate employees in the Laboratory. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the unit.

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and problem resolution.

Other duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of 7 years of soil/concrete laboratory testing experience with at least 3 years of prior laboratory management experience required.Experience with ASTM and CalTrans test methods, AMRL, CCRL, DSA and OSHPD required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, test procedures or governmental regulations.Ability to prepare reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.Ability to effectively present information to individuals and committees and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, internal and external customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to perform and apply standard and advanced mathematical concepts, calculations and symbols, including interpreting technical documents, drawings and plans thus enabling effective communication with project managers, contractors, architects, engineers, and various jurisdictions and government agencies.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

Nicet Level II Soils, Asphalt, Concrete

Hawaii PE is a plus but not necessary.
