About this job

The Host’s role is to provide “Guest First” service at all times, making the Guest the heart and passion of all they do. This includes friendly and timely interaction with Guests and Team Members, welcoming Guests, seating Guests, answering questions, supporting cooperative service, following up to ensure each Guest’s needs are satisfied in a friendly manner, and encouraging Guests to return.

Key Performance Elements/Essential Functions

  • Welcomes, greets and thanks Guests for their visit following established service guidelines, opening doors when possible;
  • Maintains the cleanliness of the Host station, foyer, waiting area(s), restrooms, and cocktail tables while following safety standards; restocks supplies as necessary;
  • Effectively and efficiently manages the Reservations and Wait Lists; ensures all menus are stocked and properly maintained;
  • Escorts Guests to appropriate table, engaging in conversation to connect with Guests; makes recommendations and answers questions about our food, beverages, specials and other restaurant functions and services;
  • Answers telephone following established guidelines, maintaining a cheerful, courteous disposition;
  • Assists other Hosts and Team Members in taking care of Guests, providing cooperative service, occasionally delivering food and beverages, and bussing tables;
  • Monitors and observes the Guest’ dining experience. Ensures Guests are satisfied with their food, beverage, and service. Responds promptly and courteously to any requests;
  • Takes food and beverage To Go orders from Guests, repeating order for Guest confirmation.
  • Correctly enters the order in our point-of-sale system following established ringing guidelines; prepares To Go bill, presents check to Guest, accepts payment (including coupons and gift cards), processes credit card charges or make change (if applicable). Follows established cash handling procedures;
  • Clearly understand the correct procedures in serving Guests with allergens;
  • Follows alcohol awareness procedures to prevent Guest intoxication; notifies Manager on Duty with any questions surrounding alcohol service to Guests;
  • Performs side work at the start, throughout and end of each shift as required;
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities according to the Company’s written Employment Guidelines, including Performance Expectations and Dress/Style/Grooming Guidelines;
  • Keeps immediate supervisor promptly and fully informed of all Guest service issues. Take prompt corrective action as appropriate;
  • Treats all Guests, Team Members, and Manager with the greatest degree of respect and courtesy. Maintains a friendly and cooperative attitude while at work. Portrays a favorable image of Romano’s Macaroni Grill at all times; and
  • Performs related tasks as assigned by Restaurant Management.

Requirements

Qualifications

Education/Training/Work Experience

  • 6 mos. To 2 years related experience preferred:
  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) preferred; and
  • Food Handler’s Certificate as required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with Team Members and Managers and understand the predominant languages(s) of our Guests;
  • Possess basic math skills and have the ability to handle money and operate a point-of-sale system;
  • Must have working knowledge of dining room and service procedures and functions; and
  • Ability to manager his or her own work flow and resolve question and problems with supervisor.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and/or walk throughout the entire shift and work in a restaurant environment;
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs; and
  • While performing the duties, the Host is regularly required to stand and walk; talk or hear, in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel or operate restaurant equipment; reach with hands and arms; bend, kneel, crouch and climb.
