JOB SUMMARY
Responsible to ValleyCare Health System for supporting the corporate mission, vision and values. Responsible to Family Practice for medical assistant duties. Responsible to the customer for courteous, accurate, timely service.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND MAJOR DUTIES
Assists physicians with clinical/surgical procedures in the Family Practice Center.
Manages patient flow in a timely manner.
Documents all orders in a timely and correct manner.
Performs non-invasive tests prescribed by physicians, i.e. rapid strep, hearing and vision tests, etc.
Responsible for laboratory updates and maintenance. Organizes and checks expiration dates on sample medications and supplies.
Assures necessary supplies are available in patient rooms and nursing areas. Keeps supplies at a minimum to help decrease costs.
Answers patients' phone messages and performs follow through with messages per physician instructions. Performs other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of a college or technical program in Medical Assisting required. Associate degree in Medical Assisting from a college or technical school preferred. Previous experience as a medical assistant preferred. Previous experience with office equipment and secretarial duties preferred. Requires up to one year's experience on this or related jobs in a hospital or healthcare facility. After orientation up to one month's experience on this job is required to perform essential functions.
LICENSURE, REGISTRATION AND /OR CERTIFICATION
Certification in medical assisting by American Association of Medical Assistants Required. Certification in basic CPR by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross preferred.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Broad knowledge in medical assisting. Ability to correctly spell, file, and type 40 words per minute. Knowledge of regulatory, legislative and JCAHO standards related to healthcare.
LANGUAGE AND MATH SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
COMPUTER OPERATIONS
Computer skills are required for this job. Intermediate computer skills are including electronic mail, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheets, and work with graphics. Previous experience with programs related to Microsoft windows required.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR PATIENT CARE
Requests services based on physician's orders. Communicates physician patient, and family needs to the appropriate
staff member. Provides diagnostic and/or therapeutic services to the patient based on physician orders. Direct
results of any error could have serious consequences for the patient. Assures compliance with all regulatory agency
standards.
