Transport Aide - Per Diem
GENERAL SUMMARY: Under general supervision of nursing management and according to established procedures, transports specimens and requisitions to appropriate Hospital area. Transports patients to other Hospital areas or their rooms. Performs a variety of duties as assigned to help ensure the smooth functioning of all units.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Makes rounds to assigned units and responds to transportation needs of assigned areas.
2. Retrieves medical records and EKG's as needed for E.D. and nursing units. Transports patient specimens to Lab. Ensures that specimens are promptly delivered to the appropriate unit.
3. Transports patients to other Hospital areas or their rooms as directed. Assists patients into wheelchair or onto gurneys; assists them into bed when needed. May assist nursing staff to expedite transfers on and off units.
4. Obtains needed items from other Hospital areas such as Central Supply, Distribution, and other areas.
5. Periodically cleans routine unit-based equipment; wheel chairs, stretchers, IV Poles, etc.
6. Other related duties may be assigned as required to meet the operating needs of the Hospital.
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:
The level of knowledge equivalent to that ordinarily acquired through completion of High School Diploma and specialized training.
Min 3-12 months work experience. Hospital experience preferred. Prior transport experience a plus.
WORKING CONDITION:
Almost constant standing, walking, and pushing and lifting of patients, materials, and supplies.
