About this job

Providence is calling a full time, day shift, Laboratory Assistant to the Providence Saint John Health Center in Santa Monica, CA.

In this position you will:

Perform some or all of the following duties in one or more laboratory sections: Coordinate and participate in specimen collections, prepare specimens for testing, dispatch specimens to section or referral laboratories

Receive, process, and disseminate requests, specimens, reports, and test results as indicated.

Receive and give testing information

Prepare reagents and media

Perform phlebotomies, when assigned

Required qualifications for this position include:

California State Phlebotomy Certificate (or eligible) required (for phlebotomy)

Current Basic Life Support card for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association required for staff working in Patient Care Areas

Able to concentrate in an active environment

Ability to deal effectively with many people

Excellent human relations and oral / written communications skills

Must be able to prioritize, organize, and coordinate care

Good manual dexterity and mobility

Typing skills adequate for computer entry

Medical Terminology

Computer Literate

Type 20 wpm; know keyboard

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

High School diploma or equivalent

Six months phlebotomy experience

One year office work experience

One year laboratory experience

Six months acute care hospital experience
