Please note: this is a Full Time Permanent Bargaining Unit position and may be filled from within the Department of Commerce

Provides basic/routine information (e. g, hours of operation, location, Holder reporting procedures, claim numbers, status of claims etc.) & resolve basic/routine complaints from internal & external customers in response to written, telephone, e-mail or in-person inquiries; advisescustomers of general documentation required to claim funds (i.e., driver's license, birth certificate) as front desk receptionist. Responsible for answering a multi-line telephone system; transfers calls to appropriate sections (e.g., compliance, accountability etc.) and individuals; utilizes personal computer to send e-mail messages to employees; provides assistance to walk-in customers (e.g., provide claim forms via Wagers Application, request assistance from an examiner etc.); provides statistics (e.g., calls received, walk in customers etc.) for front desk weekly and monthly reports.


Performs related general office duties, as needed (e.g., opens and stamps incoming mail, logs checks, types and processes outgoing correspondence, claim forms etc.); files, copies, performs data entry, logs pay-in sheets, reconciles reports, and/or prepare/process various reports; assists with the preparation of documents to be imaged for claims processing and payment (e.g., open, remove staples, paperclips etc.), operates imaging (scanning) equipment; assists in processing coupons received due to advertising; set-up of claims (prepares claims for examiners).


Performs other related duties as necessary (e.g., back-up for mail room during peak seasons, notary etc.).

Minimum Qualifications:
3 mos. trg. or 3 mos. exp. in office practices & procedures; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in public relations or customer service to include techniques for dealing with difficult people; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in typing, keyboarding, data entry or word processing; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in operation of personal computer.

Major Worker Characteristics:
Knowledge of: office practices & procedures, customer relations.

Skill in: operation of office equipment* (i.e., multi-line and single-line phones, photocopier, facsimile machine, adding machine, mail opening machine, envelope sorter & stuffing machine), operation of personal computer (Wagers software)

Ability to: respond to inquiries, requests &/or complaints &/or process transactions involving several variables within familiar context, handle routine contacts via oral or written communications &/or by telephone, email, in-person &/or other means of communication with a variety of customers, some of whom may be irate, collate & classify information about data, people or things, prepare &/or maintain accurate records & reports.
