Position Summary:

Responsible for coordination and direction of prompt, efficient "patient flow" through the patient care delivery services of the hospital by providing a communication link with patient registration / bed control and the nursing units. Serves as clinical (expert) resource person in delivery and supervision of direct and indirect care processes. Provides competent leadership and direction for all hospital Cor --Zero's and/or crisis management. Serves as agent for department and hospital executives when they are not present and reports concerns and events to the designated administration person on call.

Minimum Education/Credentials/License/Degree Required:

RN License, PALS Certification and ACLS Certification, BSN preferred

Minimum Experience required:

2 year critical care experience preferred. Prior experience in coaching, mentoring and leadership skills. Knowledgeable of JCAHO standards. Able to effectively manage through a JCAHO/state survey and be familiar with the regulatory requirements expected.

Essential Job Functions:

* Provides close positive communication link within all patient care areas within the hospital for efficient "Patient Flow" through the delivery of care.

* Develops positive communication links and a follow up plan with physicians to clarify orders, plan of care, and/or medical care concerns.

* Manages those clinical aspects of patient transfer (determines stability, need for transfer, attainment of facilities and medical coverage is assured).

* Serves as advocate for patients. Follows up on resolution of stated or observed problems and communication of the follow through.

* Collaborates with staffing coordinator, managers and team leaders to ensure adequate staffing in the nursing units.

* Adept at problem solving skills and conflict management in stressful and non-stressful situations.

* Assures adequate supplies and equipment are available as needed.

* Responds to all stat calls and in-house emergency codes.

* Provides support in directing and coordinating Cor Zero's (in absence of physician) and provides role model and leadership for patient care staff in Cor Zero's.

* Serves as role model to associates by adhering to nursing standards, quality of service, professional conduct and applies consistent application of all policies and procedures. Is a resource person for associates in nursing process, technology of equipment, computerized equipment, complex care procedures and/or tasks. Provides IV site management. Aware of IV skills of in-house staff.

* Provides support and guidance to associates as the senior resource person by making frequent rounds in all areas.

* During a disaster serves as the Disaster Marshall until the Administrator on Call arrives as the facility.

* Insures unusual occurrences are reported to appropriate persons and insures necessary documentation to support report or concern.

* Keeps administrative staff, directors and unit managers appraised of concerns, problems and issues by utilizing report sheet, and other communication tools. Appropriately communicates with news media per policy.

* Demonstrates skills as defined in the RN competency.

* Physically makes rounds on every unit during their shift and participates in patient care on an as needed basis i.e., starting IV's, transporting patients and performing admission procedure.

* Maintains high skill level through ongoing education/meeting attendance and readily adapts to changing technologies, policies regulations and applies knowledge of current developments in daily work flow.

* Participates in formulation or implementation of systems and programs to effect change and realize goals and objectives.

* Exhibits SHARE behaviors and fosters positive encouragement at an institutional and patient care center level.
