Overview:

******This position will be based at our facility in Thomasville, NC, but will be part of a crew that will travel to other facilities within a 4 hour radius of Thomasville, NC. Some assignments will require overnight stays in which method of travel, lodging, and meals will be provided by the company.*******

The head mechanic will lead a crew of 3-4 maintenance mechanics responsible for providing facility-wide mechanical maintenance support to minimize production downtime and ensure efficiency and quality.

Responsibilities:

Provide leadership for a team of maintenance mechanics Install and precision align couplings on pumps, motors, gearboxes, etc. Replace bearings on pumps, motors, fans, conveyors, gearboxes, shafts, etc. Repair steam systems, boilers, and replace steam traps, steam coils, and steam control valves Replace sprockets and chains on drives Work on large baler equipment with hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical drives, and large cylinders Replace large heated rolls, work on pumps, screen changers, water jackets, heat exchangers, and extruders Replace large rolls, gearboxes, and motors With minimum supervision perform preventative maintenance, corrective and breakdown maintenance on coaters, dye ranges, printers, and extrusion equipment, machine lines, finishing lines, routers, and presses PM maintenance, and inspection on plant fire sprinkler systems, plant compressed air system including compressors and dryers, plant potable water system, plant sewer system and plant reclaim water systems, balers HVAC Carpentry, plumbing, and fabrication work as needed Perform breakdown and planned maintenance on all pant machinery

Qualifications:

Preferred 3-5 experience leading a crew, must have at least 1 year experience Ability to assess a job and relay needed materials and labor to management Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management High School diploma or GED Minimum of 5 years maintenance experience in an industrial setting Experience with Stick and Mig Welding (Demonstration required) Experience cutting and torching Experience using drill press and hand drill Experience using a pipe threader Experience with broaching and keyways Experience with straight edge machine alignment and belt tensioning Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, and steam systems Required to work from heights up to 120ft and inside non-permit required confined spaces Required to work in weather extremes Must have and keep a valid driver's license Must have hand tools Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays and overtime with little or no notice Must be able to move oneself freely throughout a manufacturing facility Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, stretch, kneel, and assume awkward positions as is dictated by worksite Must be able to push, pull, and lift plant equipment weighing in excess of 100 pounds Must have the ability to read and write in Basic English
