JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Dairy Marketing Branch (Branch) oversees the production and marketing of milk and dairy products to ensure that milk is available to consumers at all times at a fair and reasonable price. The Branch calculates the minimum price processors must pay producers to purchase milk using mathematical formulas based on supply and demand and collects and analyzes cost and production statistics for publication in various formats. In addition, the Branch administers the licensing of California milk and dairy product Handlers and Distributors annually.

Under supervision of the Research Manager I, the Agricultural Technician I (Seasonal) (Ag Tech I) performs assignments of average difficulty in an office setting with a variety of clerical tasks, including supporting the licensing function of the Branch. Incumbent is expected to be able to independently perform simple-to-average office tasks/duties. The Ag Tech I should be able to work with computers (Word, Excel, Internet, Outlook, other) in preparing various documents/assignments as directed and be comfortable with database entry.

The Ag Tech I will be focused on the functions pertaining to the processing and issuing or Milk Handler and Distributor Handler Licenses, duties related to answering and screening telephone calls to the Branch and Division staff, and numerous clerical support duties. The Ag Tech I must be able to follow oral and written instructions, communicate effectively, and pay close attention to detail.

DUTIES:

Prepare and distribute license renewal reminders. Receive all new and renewal applications. Review license application for completeness, and prepare for processing/issuing of license. Answer inquiries from applicants regarding the requirements for a license or the status of a pending application. Enter licensee application information into the Licensing Database. Print the license, mail original to applicant, and file copy in license file. Cancel any license for businesses that are no longer operating, or those licenses that have been denied or revoked. Act as back-up to Receptionist. Answer, screen, and route telephone calls received on the Branch main telephone line, including those calls for Division staff. Provide office support functions such as photocopying, scanning, and assembling meeting packets. Finalize letters, memos, and documents as needed.

WHO SHOULD APPLY:
