About this job

The Receptionist/Clerk shall be responsible for providing clerical and patient related support in the functional areas of record keeping, scheduling, utilizing knowledge of office policy and procedure. Verifies patient demographics, completes patient records, files and prepares patient chart. Verifies physician orders and consults patient record as appropriate. Enters and schedules referral appointments when required. Prepares patients for exam when requested. Balances patient payments and maintains paper billing on a daily basis. Maintains proper office supplies. Coordinates reports and face sheets for billing.

Must observe professional ethics in maintaining confidential information acquired concerning personal, financial, medical and employment status of patients their families. Must follow accepted safety practices for patients and facility, report safety hazards, initiate appropriate action when needed, and participate in safety instructional programs. Must have the ability to follow directions and perform work according to job description with little or no supervision. Maintains a cost conscious attitude to time usage and supplies. Maintains a positive attitude and demonstrates professionalism and integrity in daily activities.

Education: High School diploma or GED equivalent Experience: Desirable characteristics include at least two years of experience in a hospital or medically related environment. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Must have computer and word processing experience along with proficiency in typing. Must be able to follow directions and to perform work according to department standards when no directions are given. Must be emotionally mature and able to function effectively under stress. Must possess ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and co-workers.
