Position Summary:

Provide transportation and freight management leadership, guidance, and support to all company perishables and manufacturing freight operations. Focus on reducing overall perishable and manufacturing freight expense and improving on-time delivery service. Responsible corporate-wide and will include all Wesco field transportation and floral centers. Essential Job Functions:
  • Identify and manage transportation and freight between Kroger distribution centers
  • Enforce Kroger transportation policies and procedures for Kroger produce/floral and manufacturing finished goods into our Distribution Centers
  • Leverage total freight volume to lower transportation expense and improve service
  • Participate in carrier freight bids
  • Oversee carrier selection and carrier relationship management
  • Routinely involved with 3rd party freight issues
  • Monitor Over Short & damaged goods for vendor/carrier repayment
  • Update and maintain various transportation management systems
  • Oversee, manage and report operational performance metrics and Kroger Performance Indicators (KPI)
  • Develop and implement work schedules
  • Effectively communicate with all vendors, transportation providers and Distribution Centers
  • Supervise and coach direct reports in the performance of their duties; completes performance reviews and provides feedback to direct reports

Minimum Position Qualifications:
  • 3 + years of experience of logistics transportation and project management
  • 2 + years of experience of leadership, managing and achieving goals
  • Proficient in transportation management and collateral systems
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to resolve complex operational issues
  • Proven ability to lead, train and motivate a team and ability to develop others
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of financial or statistical concepts related to budgeting and reporting
  • Ability to work off scheduled hours inclusive weekends, nights, and holidays
  • Ability to travel (up to 25%)
Desired Previous Job Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 2 + years experience in KTC operations or similar operations
  • Previous experience in Kroger Supply Chain, and general freight hauling
  • Extensive experience in freight claims management and resolution
  • Expanded knowledge of motor carrier, store, and warehouse operations
  • Advanced knowledge of buyer/procurement practices and supplier relationships
  • Proficient in Transportation Manangement and routing system
  • Knowledge of procurement and web applications

 

Education Level: Bachelor's Desired
