NATURE OF POSITION:

The Plant Operator will be responsible for filling industrial, medical and/or specialty products into liquid gas cylinders in compliance with federal, state and local regulations and meeting all standard operating procedures of Airgas. Responsible for meeting all safety standards in the filling, handling, storage, loading and unloading of cylinders per Airgas procedures.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

* Operate equipment for pumping or replacing gases into cylinders.

* Performs minor maintenance of equipment and inspection of cylinders prior to filling.

* Uses standard pre-fill and post-fill inspections, tests and operating procedures prior to cylinders being released.

* Regularly inspects pumping apparatus and associated monitoring devices used in daily activities.

* Fills cylinders, or containers, to proper capacity and accurately maintain cylinder filling records and ensures that all required procedures are followed in order to comply with local, state and federal requirements.

* Completes daily fill sheets and cylinder filling records accurately and timely.

* Complete and attach warning, and other identifications tags, labels and decals to cylinders.

* Unload and load cylinders onto delivery trucks using cylinder carts and / or lift gate.

* Ensure any accident or injury is promptly reported and is compliant with all company safety policies and procedures and attends monthly safety meetings.

* Maintain a clean, safe and orderly plant appearance.

* Paint and make necessary repairs on liquid gas cylinders.

* Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

The Plant Operator operates and performs routine repairs on more complex filling and related systems in three main areas of the plant:

* Acetylene Generator and Compressors (in a Flammable Plant), Propane and Dewars.

* DOT Cylinder Recertification (Ultrasonic Cylinder Testing and Acetylene Requalification's) and / or the Main Plant which includes the following sub-systems:

o LOX/LIN/LAR Systems, Compressor Filling (Mix, 3K/6K, Helium Air) and Process Analyzers

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

* Ability to perform very heavy work---routinely lift 25 to 75 lb., and occasionally lift 76 to greater than 100 lb. Also required to push and pull liquid containers weighing up to 1000 pounds with the aid of material handling equipment.

* Frequent bending, stooping, crouching, reaching, grasping, feeling and repetitive motion required.

* Ability to perform work during occasional climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and finger activities including the tightening of ratchet binders.

* Must be able to safely drive a forklift.

* Ability to work independently and under some pressure to meet deadlines.

* Must be able to work outdoors in temperatures ranging from -10 to over 100 degrees.

* Talk to and hear customers/co-workers as well as smell/hear leaking gas from cylinders.
