Role Description

This role is a senior leadership position accountable for driving the strategy, implementation and successful delivery of the Integrated Asset Plan for an asset in late phase oncology development. The Asset Team Leader (ATL) leads a global cross-functional Asset Team and is the single point of accountability for the seamless execution and project deliverables for the asset or group of assets managed by the team. The ATL has responsibility for an asset after the achievement of the Proof of Concept milestone, after the asset transitions to the Late Phase Strategy, Development, Submission and Lifecycle Management Group for registration development and subsequent life-cycle management through loss of exclusivity. The ATL is accountable for budget development and critical oversight, and for recommending individual asset investment opportunities that will support investment prioritization in the context of the overall Pfizer Oncology portfolio. The ATL will be responsible for continuous optimization and refinement of the Asset strategy. The ATL will also be responsible for approval of program and/or project plans, as well as changes to the program that may impact the approved budget. The ATL applies oncology drug development knowledge and experience to assure that the asset is managed in an efficient and rigorous manner as reflected in the design and conduct of studies with high likelihood of technical, regulatory, and commercial success. The ATL will be an experienced people leader and will be responsible for optimizing team alignment, governance, and overall team health. Moreover, the Asset Team Leader will demonstrate business acumen and be able to interface seamlessly to ensure successful support of regional market needs. The ATL will be a decisive leader who can apply cost effective, time efficient and high quality approaches to drug development.

Responsibilities

* Leads cross functional Asset Team(s) comprised of Clinical Development, Statistics, Clinical Pharmacology, Translational Oncology, Regulatory, Commercial Development, Safety, Project Management, Operations, Pharmaceutical Sciences and other functions as determined by the needs of the team

* Leads or co-leads Asset-based development partnerships and alliances

* Accountable for ensuring that the Asset Plan is consistent with the Pfizer Oncology strategy

* Accountable for developing projects that are cost-effective and look to de-risk the candidate and investments as early as practical

* Accountable for ensuring that the project is managed appropriately per budget

* Accountable for ensuring that the necessary resources are applied to the project to support its success

* Accountable for the quality of asset deliverables to external authorities

* Promotes an OWN IT! culture within the Asset Team in order to bring forward creative development plans that maximize the potential of the asset.

* Partners with Pfizer Oncology colleagues to define an Asset Plan with the best fit to Business Unit strategy

* Leverages line expertise to achieve the team goals

* Acts as point of contact and project representative to governance and other decision-making bodies, including information dissemination and the resolution of critical project issues

* Creates a motivated, committed and engaged project team

* Models leadership behavior and expects effective team behavior to achieve the project goals

* Manages key interdivisional interfaces on project issues including but not limited to research, development, operations, commercial, medical affairs, pharmaceutical sciences, manufacturing

Qualifications

Levels are determined by the qualifications of the individual (based on experience and competencies) and business need (based on the complexity of the deliverables)

Training and Education:

* Graduate degree with post-graduate training in biomedical sciences or one of the disciplines related to drug development

* Significant drug development leadership experience, both line and team, and management training, with history of effective management of cross functional teams

* Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in the pharmaceutical, academic and/or medical research environments having successfully executed a major component of a development program. Significant Phase 1-3 clinical research experience with strong understanding of the elements of drug development programs and experience in their design and execution.

Prior Experience Preferred:

* Demonstrated experience in successfully leading teams: running them effectively, efficiently and on target. Capable of recognizing when team interventions are required to enhance team effectiveness

* Significant experience leading Phase 3 programs and clinical operations

* Knowledgeable of the commercial and environmental issues that drive drug development projects

* Business Acumen capable of supporting regional market needs for the asset

* Direct experience in preparation of regulatory submissions, presentation to regulatory advisory panels in support of registration of a new drug

* Experienced in managing drug development budgets and demonstrated fiscal responsibility

* Formal business education (i.e. MBA) and/or business leadership training

* At least five years' experience in Oncology Drug Development in the pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology industry

* Proven track record of success in an Oncology Drug Development Team environment

Some travel may be required.
