Florida Hospital Orlando seeks to hire a Security Officer who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.

Located on a lush tropical campus, our flagship hospital, 1,107-bed Florida Hospital Orlando, serves as the major tertiary facility for much of the Southeast, the Caribbean and South America. Department Profile

The Security Department at Florida Hospital is a team dedicated to the safety and security of life and belongings of all patients, guests, visitors, and employees that enter our facilities. We are a multifaceted department that consists of dispatchers, patrol officers, educators, and investigators that all work together to make a secure, healing environment.

Work Hours/Shifts

Full Time

6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Four 12 hour shifts per week

Job Summary

As a Security Officer, you will make providing service your priority while caring for the whole person in a faith-based atmosphere.

The primary function of the Florida Hospital Security Officer is to protect employees, patients, visitors, and property from harm or damage. Following guidelines set forth by the Security Management Plan and abiding by local, state, and federal law, officers respond to emergency situations that could lead to potential physical harm to themselves or others involved. They perform routine patrols and tasks as assigned by the Supervisor, Manager, or Director of the department and present themselves in a manner that encourages civil behavior by others. They participate in programs to prevent theft, robbery, assurance of privacy, traffic control, and building lockdown. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

Knowledge, Skills, Education and Experience Required

Good verbal and written communication skills

Able to physically comply with daily tasks and training requirements

40 Hour Security Officer Training (preferred)

Minimum of one-year experience in hospital security (preferred)

High school graduate or equivalent (preferred)

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required

International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Basic Training Certification within three months of hire date.

State of Florida Class E Driver License

Job Responsibilities

Demonstrates through behavior Florida Hospital's Core Values of Integrity, Compassion, Balance, Excellence, Stewardship and Teamwork as outlined in the organization's Performance Excellence Program

Performs all security related tasks as assigned by Supervisor and keeps Supervisor apprised of unusual activities and events. Properly utilizes and maintains all issued and operated equipment.

Participates in activities not directly related to Security operations as approved by Security Management. These may include transport and release of bodies from the morgue, patient escort, elevator recall checks, and special event setups.

Performs facility lockdown as dictated and screens visitors and employees seeking entry after hours. Learns applicable systems and respond to fire alarms at facility fire alarm panels and to units both during actual alarms and drills and be proficient in helicopter fire prevention and fire response.

Exhibits good judgment during critical situations and maintains a professional and authoritative demeanor at all times. Assesses situations with consideration for age of individuals involved. Gathers information pertaining to incidents such as thefts, accidents, etc., and accurately completes appropriate documents in the correct format.

Intercedes in disputes, both physical and verbal, between persons using verbal de-escalation techniques and skills and defuses potentially violent patient, employee, or visitor situations Able to physically manage combative, violent persons without hesitation using techniques taught in the required annual aggression management training.

Security Officers at locations with Dispatch Centers may be asked to serve as Dispatchers when needed. Prior to working as a Dispatcher, the Dispatch Supervisor will provide appropriate training and orientation
