Department Profile

The Nursing Education Department at Florida Hospital Altamonte is responsible for the onboarding and orientation of new employees. Our Nursing Educators work closely with new employees and their preceptors to ensure a successful transition from New Hire to Altamonte Family Member. Each Educator has assigned units where they are champions for clinical knowledge, safety, and Patient Experience excellence.

Work Hours & Shifts

Full Time: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm, as needed

Job Summary

As an Education Specialist with Florida Hospital Altamonte, you will make providing service your priority while caring for the whole person in a faith-based atmosphere. The Education Specialist actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. The Education Specialist is responsible for facilitating the development of clinical excellence in assigned areas through active participation in orientation, training, on-going staff development and evaluation of clinical practice for all levels of personnel served. The Education Specialist participates in the development of formal and informal education programs and activities in an effort to improve standards and performance expectations. Additionally, the Education Specialist is responsible for the coordination of all phases of orientation for new nursing employees, and for planning, implementing and evaluating in-service and continuing education programs on an on-going basis which are designed to meet educational needs. The Education Specialist is cognizant of trends in nursing practice and care delivery and facilitates the process for learners to assume responsibility for maintaining competence in practice.

Knowledge, Skills, Education, and Experience Required

* Previous teaching experience in formal/informal settings

* Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Power Point and Excel

* Effective communicator, strong interpersonal skills.

* Self directed, creative, shows initiative to develop educational programs.

* Demonstrates leadership ability.

* BS in Nursing, or related field

* 3-5 years experience in the area of specialty applying for.

* BLS/ACLS Instructor (depending on specialty) within first year.

* MSN or Masters degree in related field (preferred)

Licensure, Certification or Registration Required

* Current RN registration with the Florida State Board of Nursing

* Certification in specialty; Certification as Nursing Professional Development Educator (preferred)

* Utilizes principles of education and adult learning to provide opportunities and experiences for professional growth consistent with the Novice to Expert continuum. Utilizes the process of systematic inquiry to develop educational activities

* Contributes educational expertise to facilitate and enhance achievement of individual, departmental, and organizational goals

* Demonstrates knowledge of leadership principles and management skills. Communicates effectively. Maintains knowledge of national and local trends in nursing practice.

* Promotes continuous improvement. Collaborates to implement change

* Integrates published research and current literature to develop and implement learning activities. Contributes to the research process and participates in hospital based research. Provides learning opportunities which enable nurses to utilize research findings in practice.

* Participates in education-focused systematic inquiry on topics such as health care outcomes, issues, concepts, theories and the learning process.
