Position Summary:

Provides Cardiovascular, Interventional imaging, related non-vascular studies and patient care services at defined levels to patients. Also performs computed tomography imaging services at defined levels. Position has a call requirement once fully trained.

Principal Accountabilities:

Assesses and educates patients according to specific department protocols.

Implements radiation protection and safety standards to minimize radiation exposure to staff and patients.

Maintains mandated continuing education requirements.

May be required to train / precept students and new techs.

Operates a variety of complex stationary and mobile diagnostic equipment.

Positions patients and selects anatomic and technical exposure parameters accurately.

Prepares and administers contrast media and/or medications within accepted scope of practice, and applicable state/federal regulations.

Prepares for and assists the physician in a variety of vascular diagnostic and interventional procedures as well as other cardiac, invasive and CT guided procedures.

Completion of a formal two-year course in an accredited program in Radiologic Technology.

Certified by the state of California in both Radiologic Technology and Fluoroscopy.

Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. BLS certification.

BLS (AHA) certification

Minimum 3 years experience as a Radiologic Technologist. Must have experience in IR and CT.

Strong leadership, team work and interpersonal skills.

Knowledge of PACs and EPIC including registration, scheduling, ordering, charging, and reports as required to carry out job assignment.

Basic computer skills to include keyboarding and data entry skills to enter information into electronic health records.

Experience:

Thorough understanding of cross sectional anatomy.

Solid base of knowledge with computer workstations and advanced imaging techniques, to include 3-D angiography reconstruction

Required comprehensive angiography and/or cardiac cath lab and CT experience as is normally obtained in approximately three years.

Previous Interventional Radiology or Cardiac Catheterization experience preferred.

Knowledge:

Substantial knowledge of cardiac cath procedures; operation and care of radiologic equipment and diagnostic imaging; electronic imaging and image transfer, storage and retrieval

Understands radiation protection techniques to minimize radiation exposure to staff and patients.

Able to recognize potential abnormalities and prioritize accordingly.

Skills:

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work unsupervised or with minimal supervision.

Must be able to work in a rapidly changing and challenging environment and take appropriate actions in emergent situations.
