Summary: Performs direct care duties under the supervision of nursing personnel and assists in maintaining a positive physical, social, and psychological environment for the residents. Essential Duties and Responsibilities * Assists residents with: daily bath, dressing, grooming, dental care, and bowel and bladder functions; preparation for medical tests and exams; ear and eye care; and transferring into and out of beds, chairs, bathtubs, etc. * Provides nursing functions as directed by supervisor, including daily perineal and catheter care; change dressings; turn residents in bed; gives sponge baths; measures and records temperature, pulse, and respirations; weighs and measures residents; performs restorative and rehabilitative procedures; observes and reports presence of skin breakdowns; reviews care plans daily; reports changes in resident conditions to supervisor; records all necessary charting entries; and reports all accidents and incidents. * Prepares residents for meals and snacks; identifies food arrangement, and assists in feeding residents as needed; records food and fluid intake; and performs after-meal resident care. * Assist as directed in proper admission, transfer, and discharge of residents; inventories residents' possessions and reports food articles and medications found in residents' rooms; and reports defective equipment to administration. * Understands and uses Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Standard Precautions, OSHA's Occupational Exposure to Blood borne Pathogens standard, and follows established infection control, hazardous communication, and other safety rules; ensures cleanliness of assigned residents' rooms; properly maintains and records residents' restraints; and promptly reports all violations of safety and sanitation rules to supervisor. * Direct and indirect involvement in the marketing of the facility. * Attends and participates in orientation, training, educational activities, and staff meetings. * Other duties as assigned. Education/Experience: Graduate of a state approved nursing assistant training program and passed a state approved competency examination (written and skills) within 120 days of employment; name entered into state nurse aide registry. Requires regular lifting on an average of 40 pounds on average of 25 times in an eight hour period with assigned residents and up to 45 times per shift when assisting others. (1 person lift: resident weighs up to 40 pounds 2 person lift: resident weighs over 40 pounds) Walking an average of 8 miles per 8 hour shift. Sitting on average of 1 hour during documentation of care provided. Work requires frequent crouching, stooping, bending and climbing stairs. Work requires frequent reaching and pulling; for example, when turning and repositioning residents in bed as required. Work also requires pushing; for example, transporting residents in wheel chairs.
