Maintenance Worker - Full-time / Part-time

Hill Crest Behavioral Health Services is the only freestanding, full-service psychiatric hospital in the Birmingham area. It draws on a rich tradition while staying on the cutting edge of new developments in treating psychiatric illness and enhancing mental health. We treat mental illness, emotional problems, and adults with chemical dependency.

Hill Crest BHS currently has a Maintenance Worker position available. The Maintenance Worker performs a variety of tasks in the routine upkeep, maintenance and repair to physical plant, building, grounds and equipment. There are a multitude of disciplines within plant maintenance, and specific duties will vary as directed by the preventative maintenance program and work orders generated throughout the institution, but the following are characteristic of the position.

Duties and Accountabilities:

Participates in departmental in-service training and meetings Is helpful, works with a positive, courteous attitude, and communicates effectively with other staff, patients, and visitors Performs prescribed tasks effectively and in a timely manner in compliance with departmental standards Identifies and reports safety hazards to the proper authority Performs scheduled inspections and service tasks on the facility and equipment in accordance with preventative maintenance directives. The following systems and equipment are included in the scheduled maintenance concept: HVAC systems, Fire Alarm Systems, Water Heater, Electrical Distribution, Patient Care Equipment. Kitchen equipment, Sprinkler and Plumbing Systems, Building Interior and Exterior, Grounds and Landscaping, Special Devices, Tools and Service Equipment Records all completed maintenance tasks on work order or related forms. Reports or records all equipment discrepancies requiring maintenance attention Maintains all equipment/systems operational and in original configuration Maintains service equipment/tools in good repair Maintains a neat/clean work area Safeguards tools and equipment Communicates well both orally and written Tolerates disruption of schedule such as emergencies, etc. Handles supplies, etc., in a cost conscious manner Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of departmental standards and goals Consistently demonstrates competence in day to day scheduling of duties by completing tasks on time with little assistance from others required Always exhibits a positive attitude when dealing with others in day to day work situations

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Some knowledge is required in the following disciplines: Carpeting, Painting, Masonry, Electrical, Plumbing, Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning, Refrigeration, General Mechanics, Gardening Ability to follow written and oral instructions and complete written forms A minimum of one year experience in building maintenance and repair Current AL driver's license
