Parent Education Instructor - Winter Park -- Per Diem
Florida Hospital Winter Park Memorial seeks to hire a Parent Education Instructor who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.

Chartered in 1951, the hospital has grown from the visionary efforts of a handful of Winter Park residents and community leaders, to a 307-bed acute care facility that is a model of community health and wellness. Over the years the hospital has continually expanded to meet the needs of the community, adding an upscale obstetrics and Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at The Dr. P. Phillips Baby Place, cancer care at the Florida Hospital Cancer Institute, Winter Park, and state-of-the-art surgery, recovery and rehabilitation at the Florida Hospital Orthopaedic Institute. Department Profile :
The Dr. P. Phillips Baby Place is known as Central Florida's "boutique" obstetric hospital, with a reputation for providing sophisticated medical care in a warm, supportive and intimate environment. With over 2,700 babies born here annually, we are ranked third among area hospitals for the number of babies delivered. Our Level II NICU offers comprehensive neonatal and diagnostic facilities for premature babies (born up to eight weeks early), babies with respiratory distress, babies with diabetic moms and other
special cases.

Job Summary :
As a Parent Education Instructor, you will make providing service your priority while caring for the whole person in a faith-based atmosphere. Under general supervision, the Parent Education Instructor plans and conducts prenatal education classes for adolescents and adults at Florida Hospital and satellites. Offers instruction in the hospital and in the community in the area of pregnancy, labor and delivery, post partum, newborn and child care. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
Knowledge, Skills, Education and Experience Required :
BLS instructor if teaching CPR or Safe Sitter
Ability to communicate effectively
Experience working with obstetric patients, newborns, children and/or adolescents
Skilled in teaching adults and adolescents (Preferred)
Ability to effectively use audio-visual equipment (Preferred)
Graduate of a school of nursing, or (Preferred)
Bachelor's Degree in clinical science, or (Preferred)
Physical Therapist (Preferred)
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required :
Must be certified in at least one of the following:
Childbirth Classes -- Childbirth Education Certification
Childbirth and Post Partum Professional Association, or
Lamaze International, or
International Childbirth Education Association, or
Prepared Childbirth Educators, INC
Breastfeeding Classes
IBCLC Certification
Happiest Baby on the Block
Certified Happiest Baby Educator through Happiest Baby Education Association
Baby Care / Postpartum Care

Job Responsibilities :
Demonstrates through behavior Florida Hospital's Core Values of Integrity, Compassion, Balance, Excellence, Stewardship and Teamwork as outlined in the organization's Performance Excellence Program.
Plans and presents classes on all phases of pregnancy, labor and delivery and baby care to expectant parents, adolescent and adult, in the community at Florida Hospital and satellites.
Organizes class to include all information and run smoothly. Leads discussions in a positive direction/acts in a professional and friendly manner/demonstrates compassion for the couples in this stage of life.
Hands out questionnaires/evaluations to students and re-evaluates classes and teaching techniques annually or as needed.
Provides accurate information to students regarding childbirth and Florida Hospital policies and procedures.
Attends staff meetings and seminars to stay updated. Shows an interest in the quality of childbirth classes and care given at the Florida Hospital and offers suggestions for the improvement of classes and department policies. Attends anesthesia class annually and breastfeeding class every other year. Maintains CPR certification.
Keeps supplies and supply room/closet orderly and suggests materials that could improve/are needed for the classes.
Teaches class as scheduled and arrives early enough to prepare for class. If unable to teach class as scheduled, arranges for a substitute teacher.
Willing to participate in educating the Florida Hospital staff and support other Parent Education instructors as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department.
