Overview:
Responsible to perform procedures and patient care under the supervision of a Registered
Nurse; provides support services for the Emergency Department (cleaning, stocking, ordering); provides patient transport; performs phlebotomy and EKG's: Perorms multi-skilled patient care actions and services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of patients. May implement BLS. Follows the Medical Centers pain policies and the Patient Safety/Risk Management program. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards. Responsibilities:
1.Demonstrates the ability to provide care to patients of all ages under direction of the
RN. Demonstrates knowledge and ability to report and intervene patients pain per
policy.
2. Demonstrates the ability and knowledge to maintain sterile technique, follows standard
precautions and Infection control techniques (Gloves, goggles, handwashing).
3. Checks all equipment at specified intervals (emergency van, oxygen cylinders, NIBP's,
monitors/cables, portable EKG machine, stretchers, omni and plum pumps, glucometers, wheelchair's, expiration date of supplies. Maintains neat and organized clean holding/dirty holding.
4. Demonstrates ability to complete assigned duties within the assigned work period.
Restocks patient rooms, equipment carts, and supply areas.
5. Utilizes defined communication channels to effectively resolve problems and articulate
ideas in a calm manner.
6. Demonstrates the ability to transport and transfer patients via wheelchair and stretcher
safely. Demonstrates the ability to do EKG's & UDS.
7. Demonstrates the ability to perform accurate venipuncture with confidence and few
attempts. Documents appropriately and accurately. Follows sharps, safety, and infection control guidelines.
8. Professional Responsibility:Adheres to Attendance Policy and Rules of Conduct.
Attends mandatory in-services and staff meetings. Adheres to the dress code policy.
9.Other Duties as designated.
10. Customer Service:Apply Mercy Service Standards to all patient and co-worker interaction.
11. Quality:Identify patients according to policy. Promptly collects all specimens as ordered. Ensure specimen integrity.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM REQUIRED
Education: High School diploma or equivalent. Graduate of approved
Basic/ EMT course, Graduate of CNA course, Certified
Phlebotomist, or Medical Assistant; Successful completion of
one semester of Registered Nursing School.
Licensure: n/a
Experience:
Certification/Registration: CNA, EMT Basic, Certified Phlebotomist, or Medical Assistant.
BLS is required.
Other skills & knowledge:

Competent to provide services to patients of all ages. Excellent
customer service skills; basic computer skills.
