SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The R&D Stapling Portfolio Team is searching for a highly motivated and creative student to lead a priority summer project. The intern will investigate the performance characteristics of medical devices and report out the results in a team setting. The role will involve significant responsibility requiring an inquisitive mind and solid organizational skills. The candidate must be able to work independently with minimal guidance as well as operate well in a team environment. Main functions involved may include:
Understanding surgical procedures and associated technologies
Creating, coordinating and executing an experimental plan
Investigating and designing a new test setup
Basic mechanical design for prototype and testing system preparation
Performing tissue sample preparation and mechanical testing
Documenting work, performing data analysis and presenting findings and recommendations
Strict adherence to safety policies
Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS:
Current undergraduate student pursing a degree in Biomedical or Mechanical Engineering
Completion of at least sophomore year required
GPA of 3.2 or above
Aptitude for experimental design, mechanical testing and data analysis
Comfortable working with explanted tissue
Must be available to work at least 40 hours a week Monday-Friday
Excellent communication skills both oral and written
Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite
Knowledge of statistics preferred
