Summary: This position performs a variety of activities related to the transportation of patients and equipment. Responsible for the safe, timely and accurate transport of patients and equipment to their destination.

Job Responsibilities: Transport patients to and from clinical, ancillary and support areas via wheelchair, stretcher or beds as requested to include transport of patients with oxygen tanks, intravenous pumps, drips and special equipment. With assistance, transfers patients to or from beds, wheelchairs or stretchers as needed. During discharge transports patients to hospital lobby and open doors. Job performance/Job Duties, requires standing and walking along with pushing of wheelchairs, stretchers and equipment. Must be able to lift up to 25lbs, and push equipment weighing up to 30 lbs. Ensures proper oxygen levels in tanks before transporting patient. Approach, greet and offer assistance and direction to patients and visitors in the hospital environment. Communicates to nursing personnel, clinician, technician or reception of patients' arrival and departure. Verifies correct patient identification by comparing information from pager to patient wristband; obtains correct medical chart; verifies proper mode of transportation and confirms standard precautions. Disinfects and maintains par levels of equipment throughout the hospital. Push/Pull up to 5 wheel chairs at one time. Identifies malfunctioning ambulatory equipment and reports to appropriate department for repair or replacement. Rounding throughout the hospital environment for departmental equipment and delivering to the appropriate staging area. Performs environmental/safety checks and documents as required. Other duties as assigned.

Education: High School Diploma or GED.

Experience: After selection and placement, requires three months on-the-job training and orientation to learn multiple hospital and clinic locations, special procedures and patient emergency and safety procedures, proper body mechanics necessary to safely move patients.

Licensure/Certification/Registration: None

Physical Requirements: Requires full range of body motion including handling of patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination. Requires normal or corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working with some exposure to communicable disease. Heavy work-exerting 50 to 100 lbs of force occasionally and/or 25 to 50 lbs of force frequently and/or 10 to 20 lbs of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
