PURPOSE/OVERALL

Position will oversee complex Workers’ Compensation claims through the implementation of initiatives that aid in reducing claim frequency and severity. The position will provide Workers’ Compensation claim management for multiple jurisdictions with a focus on TWC’s Texas market.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


• Independently manages Workers’ Compensation indemnity claims for the Company within an assigned geographical area ensuring compliance with applicable jurisdictional rules and regulations.

• Acts as liaison between employees, TPA (Third Party Administrator) adjustors, TWC business partners, internal and external legal counsel and other appropriate parties serving as a Workers’ Compensation subject matter expert for the Company. Provides claim direction to the Workers’ Compensation TPA adjusters and provides recommendations for claim handling and resolution within a predetermined amount of monetary authority. Oversees assigned defense counsel for litigated claims.

• Monitors progression of injured employee’s progress to achieve optimum medical recovery and expedient return to work. Coordinates return to work ensuring that appropriate communication takes place with TWC business partners and ensures that the employee is returned safely to work within their restrictions (if any). Maintains contact with injured employee.

• Participates in periodic and ongoing claim reviews and audits to ensure that the claim file is reserved appropriately and that the TPA has implemented an aggressive action plan to resolve each claim in a timely and cost effective manner.

• Reviews data to determine necessary claims process changes. Runs and analyzes reports for internal customers. Engages with EHS (Environmental Health & Safety) partners to identify and address adverse trends.

• Travels to and is the Company representative at hearings, mediations, and trials as required.

• Assists with training of TWC personnel throughout the organization. Mentors Claims Analyst(s) providing indirect oversight of their work and guidance in assessing claims.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/ YEARS OF MINIMUM RELEVANT EXPERIENCE:

Candidate must possess 5+ years of experience managing Workers’ Compensation claims for a Third Party Administrator (TPA), insurance carrier or within a corporate environment.

Broad knowledge of varying Workers’ Compensation statues in multiple jurisdictions, including the terminology used in each and unique characteristics.

ADDITIONAL REQUIRED SPECIFIC SKILLS/ EXPERTISE


• Advanced knowledge working with Microsoft Office products and RMIS systems.

• Excellent communication, planning and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple and complex tasks in a fast-paced environment.

• Must be able to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.

• Strong analytical skills and performance of root cause analysis; ability to think through details.

• Proven track record managing multiple projects/initiatives independently.

• Ability to follow through on assigned tasks with limited supervision.

• Attention to detail and ability to edit and proofread effectively.

• Strong report writing and presentation skills.

• Ability to guide, motivate and mentor more junior staff.

• Ability to build internal and external collaborative relationships and work as part of a team.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/ YEARS OF MINIMUM RELEVANT EXPERIENCE:

AIC, ARM or other equivalent designation.

Adjuster licensing or equivalent for the following jurisdiction: TX. Licensing in surrounding jurisdiction is a plus.

REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION/ AND OR CERTIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from a four-year college or university or equivalent training, education and experience.

SCOPE/ OTHER SIGNIFICANT ATTRIBUTES OF THE JOB
:

• Responsibility for claim settlements <$50K.

• Approval of Workers’ Compensation cost containment measures to include the assignment of nurse case managers, subrogation, investigative measures and the approval of claim denials.

• Position will have an assigned territory in excess of 1,500 employees; position will be assisting with ongoing training of employees and act as a liaison with injured employees within the population as well as TWC business partners.

• Possess broad knowledge of varying Workers’ Compensation statues in multiple jurisdictions, including the terminology used in each and unique characteristics.

• Travel is less than 20%.
