About this job
The Medical Technologist performs routine and special chemical, microscopic, microbiological and immunological tests on body fluids, blood, and exudates from hospital and other patients to provide information for diagnosing and treatment of disease.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Observes Medical Technologists who performs various laboratory procedures on patient samples using instruments in the chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, blood bank, serology, flow cytometry, and microbiology departments.
2. Observes Medical Technologists preparing blood and blood components for transfusion including blood grouping, typing and compatibility testing.
Inoculates and cultivates specimens. 3. Observes the Medical Technologists who performs routine, fungal, anaerobic, and blood cultures and the identification of microorganisms and susceptibility results as appropriate.
4. Observes Medical Technologists who perform other microbiological testing including OCP, PCR, rapid antigen/antibody tests, and various stains and microbiological analyses.
5. Analyze unknown specimens using microscopic and manual techniques as part of training and orientation to recognize normal and abnormal findings.
6. Understands the reporting of technological findings by collecting, analyzing, and resulting information, referring to pathologist as appropriate. Responsible for reporting critical results and reportable diseases per hospital policy.
7. Observes the performance and documentation of maintenance, quality control, proficiency tests, and troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
8. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by participation in continuing education.
9. Assists in maintaining departmental inventory of supplies and reagents and performing quality control as required.
