The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist will report to the Associate Director of Environmental Health and Safety, and will be responsible for management and maintenance of EHS programs in the Carlsbad prescription fulfillment center. Specifically, the individual will be responsible for executing company EHS policies and programs, ensuring regulatory compliance, conducting inspections, reducing safety risks and incidents, non-hazardous and hazardous waste management, and administer and maintain environmental permits, licenses, and certifications.
 
Primary Responsibilities:

Serve as a liaison between UnitedHealth Group Environmental Health and Safety and OptumRx
Monitor and document site operations to ensure compliance with company’s EHS policies and programs, and with local, state, and federal regulations, requirements, and standards
Work with facility management to ensure implementation and maintenance of EHS programs
Administer and maintain environmental permits, licenses, and certifications
Provide technical advice on relevant EHS issues
Submit required EHS reports and renewal applications
Manage all aspects of non-hazardous, hazardous waste, and recycling operations and documentation
Complete and document on-site inspections, and institute corrective action as necessary
Participate in on-going EHS training
Support safety committee activities
Foster integral EHS relationships between divergent groups

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in environmental, engineering, safety, or science-related field or equivalent experience
3+ years of experience in an EHS capacity (Strong technical skills related to EHS regulatory requirements and standards)
Experience in local, state, and federal occupational safety and health standards and environmental regulations
Experience with USDOT regulations
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong computer, analytical and interpretative skills
Strong organizational, management, and interpersonal skills
Self-motivated, creative, and a team player
Preferred Qualifications:

Pharmaceutical knowledge or licensed pharmaceutical technician
USDOT hazardous materials certification
