Summary/Objective:  Assists with the month-end close process, booking journal entries and reconciling assigned balance sheet accounts, including lease related, real estate and property tax accounts.  This position will also ensure that journal entries are prepared and booked according to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and will assist with monthly reporting requirements, the external financial audit, continuous process improvements, and special projects as needed.

Essential Functions:

  • Participates in the monthly corporate accounting close process, including preparation and booking of assigned journal entries, and ensuring the general ledger is complete, materially accurate, and closed timely and in accordance with internal and external reporting requirements

  • Assists with the monthly reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, ensuring accounts are reconciled timely, reconciling items are addressed timely, and reconciliations are updated as efficiencies and improvements are identified

  • Responsible for lease related, real estate and property tax accounts and reconciliations

  • Ensures company financial statements are prepared in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and in compliance with policies and procedures

  • Prepares and files monthly, quarterly, and annual census reports and surveys

  • Acts as backup to Corporate Senior Accountant for fixed asset processes and related fixed asset accounts

  • Assists with the preparation and updates of policies and procedures

  • Identifies and resolves process / system inefficiencies and drives process improvements

  • Assists with external audits, including preparation of audit schedules, audited financial statements and footnotes

  • Assists with other monthly /quarterly reporting requirements as necessary

  • Works on additional assignments and projects as needed

  • Works cross-functionally with other areas of the business as needed

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  

Required Education and Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree in accounting required.

  • 2-3 years of accounting / general ledger experience

  • Experience performing balance sheet account reconciliations

  • Knowledge of US GAAP

  • Experience using Microsoft Excel

  • Experience working with ERP applications

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • CPA

  • Experience in Public accounting / auditing

  • Experience using PeopleSoft

  • Experience in Multiunit retail / restaurant industry
