Reports to:  Store Manager

Summary: 

Primary emphasis in this position is in managing all aspects of the Deli Department by assuring excellent customer service and assisting in the daily operations. Primary duties include assuring Deli/Food Service Clerks are pleasant and efficient when having contact with, servicing or in the presence of customers, filling and rotating cases, cleaning and sanitation within the department, and providing management assistance, primarily in monitoring the department operations and delegation of assignments. This position is responsible for providing effective training, development and work direction for department teammates and requires ability to encourage individual and group support towards department objectives. Position will continually develop skills in ordering, invoicing, scheduling, merchandising, P&L, gross profit, expense controls and record keeping. Position function also requires the ability to drive sales. Position hours will vary with the needs of the business. Assignments and work direction will be provided by Store Manager, Assistant Manager, Deli Merchandiser, or the person in charge.

Essential Functions:

  • Follow all Red Shirt Service guidelines at all times and assure team is as well
  • Greet each customer as they approach the Deli counter
  • Process each customer order properly
  • Promote product through sampling, selling sessions, and suggestive selling
  • Utilize correct procedures for credit returns and exchanges
  • Answer questions and provide any assistance necessary
  • Assure Deli Clerks are pleasant and accurate at all times
  • Assist customers with specific requests
  • Assure all food and safety regulations are in place and being followed at all times.
  • Monitor operations to Assure that proper sales and gross profit dollars are being generated
  • Monitor operations to Assure proper service and procedures are being followed
  • Prioritize and delegate assignments and follow up to Assure completion
  • Assure deliveries are properly and promptly received and put away
  • Perform product ordering
  • Process all department paper work in a timely manner
  • Take department inventories
  • Develop and coordinate aggressive and creative merchandising plans
  • Monitor daily and weekly reports
  • Attend department manager meetings, sales meetings and huddle ups
  • Keep good records of orders, pre-books and product movement
  • Assure that cases are full, clean, and attractive
  • Code date product and remove all out dated product or product unfit for sale
  • Set all cases and displays as per instructions
  • Assure proper inventory levels

  • Assures clear communication of all new departmental policies and procedures to all Front End Teammates
  • Provides feedback to store management on teammate performance
  • Recommends and assists in administering teammate disciplinary action
  • Delegates as needed
  • Supervise and assist with all department safety and sanitation programs-assure all paperwork related to these policies are accurately filled out and up to date.
  • Develop and implementation of all merchandising plans to maximize sales and gross profit dollars.
  • Responsible for department achieving all budgeted numbers; labor budgets, gross profit budgets, shrink percentages
  • Responsible for ordering department supplies and controlling supply costs
  • Follows all store and department policies as stated in the Teammate Personnel hand book and any other manuals which may be provided to you
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by store or corporate management
  • Food Service may or may not be assigned depending on store size and staffing
