Video Service Center Senior Engineer
The Time Warner Cable Broomfield, CO office currently seeks a Video Service Center Senior Engineer for our Technology and Network Operations Division. Essential Job Functions:
  • The Video Service Center Senior Engineer is responsible for daily remote operation and maintenance of IP Video delivery systems.
  • The Video Service Center Senior Engineer uses logical troubleshooting processes and analysis to implements corrective system actions.
  • The Video Service Center Senior Engineer will lead and support the four primary functions of the Video Service Center organization: Acquisition, Encoding, Transport, and Delivery.
  • Responsible for remotely troubleshooting, testing, and maintaining content services applications, VOD, MPEG over IP and Broadcast services.
  • The Video Service Center Sr. Engineer, will identify and escalate to higher tier support teams complex and unique technical issues requiring in-depth evaluation to generate solutions.
  • The Video Service Center Sr. Engineer applies high level of critical thinking skills to identify trending video systems issues, collecting critical data for necessary escalation.
  • Troubleshooting capabilities to determine hardware, software, firmware, operating system, network, application and patterned or non-repeatable problems.
  • Works closely with the Video Operations surveillance teams and Content Operations engineering groups to identify potential issues, and/or opportunities within or related to the customers experience.
  • Supports video change activities, including equipment and systems upgrades as requested by higher tier engineering teams.
  • Working knowledge of common network monitoring and security utilities.
  • The Video Service Center Sr. Engineer, is a technical point of escalation for video events working in 24x7, operations team.
  • Complies with the Video Service Center operational objectives, policies/procedures, work schedules, and reporting metrics.
  • Documents repeatable break-fix actions when required shares and provides training to associates.
  • Applies a high level of critical thinking and ingenuity to successfully resolve complex and strategic issues. Works closely with the Surveillance team to develop skills and provide a quality customer experience
  • Drive operational efficiencies and network performance improvements thru remote proactive maintenance and corrections.

Job Requirements:
  • Strong knowledge and operational use of video surveillance systems along with break fix implementation.
  • Knowledge of video capture, transport and encoding technologies including satellite capture, HD-SDI, MPEG2, MPEG4, MPEG2 Transport Streams, JPEG, and PIFF containers.
  • The Sr. Content Operations Engineer, will remotely troubleshoot and resolve video network issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with emphasis on verbal/written communication, including the ability to understand technical information.
  • Possess a high level of knowledge of the UNIX/LINUX OS and be proficient using command line.
  • Understanding of and familiarity with OSI Layer models.
  • Must have strong leadership skills and be able to remain calm and focused in stressful situations. This includes the ability to maintain order and methodical troubleshooting approach focusing on service restoration.
  • Cross-organizational skills that maintain healthy working relationships.
  • Solid understanding of video network architecture, data networking, system operations, and HFC cable systems.
  • Experience with network monitoring systems tools and ticketing management systems (Remedy, Jira).
  • Background in performing and implementing video systems break-fix a must.
  • Operational experience with building, grooming, and troubleshooting various linear/vod/nextGen encoding and transcoding platforms such as Envivio, Harmonic, Digital Rapids and Ericsson.
  • Advanced understanding and experience with Cisco DCMs, Motorola CAP/Cherry Pickers, BMRs and NetCrypts.
  • Knowledge of Content Delivery Networks methods over IP, Apple HLS & Microsoft Smooth Streaming technologies.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5 - 8 years, experience in maintaining and troubleshooting video delivery or video applications.
  • Hands on operational experience in performing video devices or systems upgrades, and Break/Fix activities.
  • 1-3 years, experience with internal or external direct customer contact in a technical environment—Technical, Hub, Headend, VOD or Controller Operations, background within a MSO or vendor network environment.
  • A practical level of experience implementing and administrating common TCP/IP-based services, including DNS, DHCP, HTTP, FTP, SSH, SMTP, etc.
  • Certification (current or past) in areas of expertise such as NCTI, SCTE, CCNA, a plus.
  • Willing to work in a shifted 24x7 operations environment.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) from four-year college or university; or equivalent training, education and experience.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities:
No Supervisory responsibilities with this position.
