About this job

Under indirect supervision the Sr Physical Therapist performs a variety of clinical & non-clinical duties to ensure prompt, appropriate & effective physical therapy srvs for patients & the community. The Sr Therapist works directly w/the staff clinicians, patients/families, & physicians & other internal & external customers while performing the listed functions. The Sr PT reports directly to the Dir of physical medicine & rehabilitation (PM&R) or the assistant Dir of PM&R, however if either is not a licensed PT, then for all clinical issues, the Sr PT will consult w/a clinical specialist who is a PT. Physical therapy srvs are provided in accordance w/Dept policies & procedures, applicable regulatory body standards,& parameters set by referring physicians.

Essential Functions:

* Upholds KP's Policies & Procedures,Principles of Responsibilities,& applicable state,federal & local laws.

* Adheres to all departmental standards of Policies & Procedures, Standards of Attendance & Dress.

* Maintains privacy & confidentiality of both member & employee medical info.

* Observe all Dept safety policies.

* Communicate effectively & appropriately in writing & verbally to patients, families, physicians, Mgmt, peers,& other internal & external customers.

* Maintains inventory & request supplies & equipment when needed.

* Follows Dept policies related to equipment maintenance.

* Direct & instruct subordinate personnel in performance of more routine procedures as requested.

* Participate in clinical competency assessment of subordinate PT/PTA's.

* Participate in orientation of new/registry staff & students.

* Act as resource to all Dept personnel regarding day to day operation.

* Participate in performance evaluation of subordinate PT/PTA's & Technicians.

* Act as a clinical resource to staff physical therapists & assistants.

* Routinely consider the patients physical, emotional, cognitive abilities & chronological maturation processing the administration of treatment procedures in treating the following types of patients:neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult,& geriatric.

* Demonstrates professional competence in assessing patient's condition at the onset & through all phases of the physical therapy program.

* Assess the condition of patients of all age groups by reviewing medical charts & selecting & using appropriate tests.

* Develop treatment plans.

* Periodical reassess patient's condition & change treatment plan w/in prescribed limitations as necessary.

* Refer unusual results of assessments to physician along w/recommendations.

* Insure that patients obtain proper equipment, receive proper home care instructions & have proper adjustments made to braces & prosthetics by contacting related srvs, outside agencies,& personnel.

* Initiate, carry out,& appropriately progress treatment programs for inpatients & outpatients.

* Document test results, findings, patient signs, symptoms, therapeutic treatments, patient progress, treatment plans, patient/family education,& clinical assessments in inpatient & outpatient records following Dept policies & procedures.

* Helps coordinate physical therapy student internship program & provides student training as required.

* Develop & direct patient care programs & special classes or clinics in conjunction w/other physical therapy staff members & other health care professionals as needed.

* Assist in the development & implementation of Dept policies & procedures.

* Perform other related duties as assigned such as aiding Dept admin in keeping abreast of current trends in physical therapy & monitory & implementing quality improvement processes.

* Participates in relevant patient care rounds & case Mgmt conferences.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience

* Minimum three (3) years of experience required.

Education

* Completion of an accredited PT training program with a bachelor's degree.

License, Certification, Registration

* Current BLS certification.

* California Physical Therapist License or eligible.

* National Provider Identifier (NPI) required as of May 23, 2007.

Additional Requirements:

* Completion of Pre-employment and annual physicals.

* Completion of annual skills competency assessment.

* Understanding/Competence in basic safety and infection control procedures i.e. proper body mechanics, universal precautions.

* Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

* MS or DPT degree.

Notes:

* The current departmental need for this position is in the Redlands and High Desert Outpatient setting (Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri).

* Based on operational needs, this position's days and hours may vary and location may be shifted to: Fontana Outpatient, Fontana Inpatient, Ontario Outpatient, Ontario Inpatient and a ny additional department locations depending on program expansion.
