For the Sort Observation, please meet in the break room in the employee entrance. A Manager will be with you at 2:30PM to begin the process. Knock at the door for entrance into the building.
The following items, unless approved by a managing director, are NOT
allowed on the dock by non-management personnel:
• Backpacks
• Bags
• Purses
• Personal radio/electronic media device
• Mobile phone
• Beeper
Note: Only clear, see-through water bottles are allowed on the dock.
Job Summary

Our network safely and efficiently moves millions of packages each day utilizing some of the best technology in the industry. FedEx Ground Package Handlers load and unload sorted packages in a fast-paced environment and ensure that FedEx Ground continues to deliver packages to its customers on time and with care. FedEx Ground facilities typically have multiple sorts operating daily in each location. During the sort, Package Handlers are responsible for the physical loading, unloading and/or sorting of packages by hand, including lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying and placing, in a safe and efficient manner. Package Handlers may be assigned to or rotate through various areas and positions such as Loader, Unloader and Quality Assurance.
Individuals who are interested in being considered for a Package Handler position are required to attend a sort observation before completing an employment application.

During the sort observation, you will see an actual sort in operation and obtain a realistic preview of the Package Handler job. To attend a Sort Observation at one of our facilities acceptable footwear is required. The most appropriate footwear is any flat bottomed shoe or boot that covers the entire foot. Some examples would include closed toe shoes such as tennis shoes/sneakers or boots.
• The primary responsibility of the Parcel Assistant is to move packages throughout the facility. Incumbent will be required to safely perform assigned tasks while meeting predetermined standards. In this flexible position, the incumbent will rotate into several areas to perform tasks including loading, unloading, palletizing, scanning, quality assurance assessment, moving items with a forklift and operating a switcher as assigned by Dock Manager or Lead Parcel Sorter.
Essential Functions:
• Unload and load trucks by hand
• Scan parcels
• Induct parcels onto sorter by size
• Lift, push, and stack parcels
• Wrap, label, and move skids
• Process packages and create mailing containers
• Sort packages to correct location according to label, load chart or scanner
• Perform other duties as assigned
Required Skills:
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
• Ability to compute rate, ratios and percent
• Effective communication skills
• Ability to organize, motivate, and lead employees
• Solid computer skills and ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Ability to proficiently communicate verbally and in writing using the English language
