In addition to the production duties below, the lead position will be responsible for supervising 2 to 4 production employees (Production Operators), more as the company grows, monitor output, give work assignments, make decisions about efficient use of time and scheduling. The lead position will have direct responsibilities for inventory counts and tracking, raw material selection, cleaning and sanitation, and training of new employees.
The Lead position will need to learn and understand the responsibilities of the production manager and perform some of those duties in his absence. The Production Lead must have a thorough understanding of HACCP and GMP programs in a food facility, as well as third party audits such as SQF, BRC, AIB or ISO.
PRODUCTION OPERATOR
Duties
Primary duties include blending and packaging of powders and liquids for customer orders. The work requires physical labor including lifting 50-110 lb. bags, following written and verbal instructions, completing necessary forms and filing completed paperwork. Performance of duties requires climbing stairs, working on elevated work platforms and long periods of standing.
Responsibilities
The production operator is responsible for safely manufacturing all company products following the company’s Good Manufacturing Practices and Food Safety procedures. You must report food safety and quality problems to the production manager or president immediately.
The production operator is responsible for accurate blending of batches utilizing information on batch sheets, accurate load counts, labeling finished products, monitoring inventory levels, maintaining a clean plant, shipping and receiving and quality analysis of the products produced. Other responsibilities include some phone communication, proper handling of paperwork, some computer use and assisting in cleaning bathrooms, offices, and scrubbing floors.
COMPETENCIES
- Must pass a simple math test (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, ratios and percentages).
- Must pass in-house HACCP knowledge test.
SKILLS
- Use of scales and measuring equipment.
- Storage, identification and handling of raw materials.
- Measuring raw materials.
